Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is seekin
g an accomplished, visionary physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Hematology & Oncology in the Department of Internal Medicine. This candidate will also serve as the Medical Director of the University Medical Center (UMC) TLC² Foundation Cancer Center.

The selected leader will assume a significant leadership role, anchored by UMC's new 124,000 sq. ft. comprehensive academic cancer center, which opened on April 20th, 2026. The center features:

  • Advanced radiation oncology
  • Infusion & chemotherapy services
  • Outpatient adult and pediatric oncology clinics
  • Two pharmacies - dedicated infusion pharmacy and specialty pharmacy
  • Dedicated research space
  • Clinical trials, Phase I-III, infrastructure
  • Integrative medicine services including acupuncture, massage, art/music therapy, yoga and
    nutrition
  • A strong philanthropic base, galvanized by the community's desire for exceptional care, closer to

TTUHSC is nationally recognized for innovative research, education, and patient care. UMC is a 500-bed public, academic medical center with a catchment area and resulting influx of 9,400 transfers from 157 counties across 260,000 square miles, the only Level I Trauma Center between Dallas and Albuquerque, the only verified Burn Center between Dallas and Phoenix, and the primary teaching hospital of TTUHSC. Together, they anchor a rapidly expanding cancer enterprise serving West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

Leadership must be visionary as both UMC and TTUHSC strive to impact cancer care for more than 3 million people across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico in alignment with TTUHSC's Rural Cancer Collaborative efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
DIVISION CHIEF, HEMATOLOGY ONCOLOGY

  • Provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Division, the Center, and the service line
  • Continuing development of a premier multidisciplinary oncology program recognized regionally
  • Direct multi-disciplinary clinical services spanning pediatric through adult, inclusive of surgery, radiation oncology, palliative care, and additional subspecialties, toward a teamoriented, patient-focused program
  • Increase clinical trials (Phase I-III) and strengthen collaborations with NCI-, DoD-, CPRIT funded researchers, cooperative groups, and industry-sponsored trials.
  • Advance academic scholarship efforts while increasing extramural funding
  • As an absolute priority, retain, recruit, mentor, and develop Hematology/Oncology faculty
  • Advise and provide oversight of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program
  • Leading as practitioner, engage in direct patient care through ongoing clinical practice, inclusive of supervision and teaching

MEDICAL DIRECTOR - UMC TLC2 CANCER CENTER

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) and UMC Health System seek an accomplished, visionary physician executive to serve as the Medical Director of the UMC TLC2 Cancer Center. This is a distinctive premier opportunity to spearhead a rapidly expanding cancer program of regional and national prominence. The ideal leader will define a new era for the program—one anchored by multidisciplinary clinical excellence, robust academic ambition, and an unwavering commitment to expanding access to advanced, compassionate oncology care across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

Leadership Priorities
  • Strategic & Clinical Stewardship: Provide overarching strategic, clinical, and academic leadership to position the cancer center as the destination program for complex oncology care in the region.
  • Multidisciplinary Excellence: Drive the integration of multidisciplinary care models, spearhead continuous quality improvement initiatives, and maintain the highest standards of clinical accreditation and patient experience.
  • Faculty & Physician Engagement: Cultivate a collaborative medical staff culture; champion physician engagement, faculty development, and the advancement of oncology fellowship and education programs.
  • Research & Innovation Expansion: Accelerate clinical trial accruals, expand translational research infrastructure, and foster academic partnerships that elevate the program's scholarly impact.
  • Top-Tier Recruitment & Mentorship: Lead strategic physician recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship to build and retain a highperforming, destination oncology team.
  • Joint-Venture Alignment: Serve as the critical bridge aligning the academic missions of TTUHSC with the operational and clinical excellence of the UMC Health System enterprise.
  • Institutional Ambassadorship: Represent the cancer center with high credibility, distinction, and influence across academic, corporate, philanthropic, and community forums.
THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will be a boardcertified oncology physician executive with a distinguished record of clinical practice, academic achievement, and progressive leadership within a complex healthcare system or academic medical center. This individual must possess a refined executive presence, strong strategic acumen, and the diplomatic skill required to inspire faculty, cultivate trusted institutional partnerships, and navigate a matrixed communityacademic enterprise. As a collaborative builder with a sophisticated understanding of healthcare economics and clinical operations, the ideal leader will seamlessly align TTUHSC's academic missions with UMC Health System's operational excellence, embodying a philosophy in which service excellence and a passion for patientcentered care drive long-term clinical distinction.

DIVISION OF HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY

The Hematology Oncology Division in the Department of Internal Medicine at TTUHSC is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge care to hematology oncology patients, with an unwavering commitment to advancing cancer research. Its comprehensive approach encompasses a range of treatment modalities, including bone marrow transplants, ensuring patients receive the most effective care available.

The division is led by a highly skilled team of 6 faculty with extensive expertise in hematologic diseases and various malignancies. Their contributions are widely recognized through publications in esteemed peer-reviewed medical journals and engagements as keynote speakers at global conferences.

A cornerstone of success lies in the division's strategic partnerships, notably with the Southwest Cancer and Research Center at the University Medical Center. Moreover, collaborative efforts extend internationally, forging alliances with renowned healthcare and research institutions worldwide, as well as those within the local community and region.

Hematology/Oncology Fellowship

The overall goal of the ACGME-accredited Hematology Oncology fellowship is to provide broad training in the disciplines of Hematology and Medical Oncology, focusing on the core competencies put forth by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)

UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER (UMC) TLC² FOUNDATION CANCER CENTER

UMC TLC² Foundation Cancer Center's new 124,000 sq ft, three-story building opened its doors on April 20, 2026. The $125 million investment in the center's expansion allows for significant growth in services provided over the next 5-10 years

The center hosts 51 exam rooms and 6 procedural rooms and was thoughtfully designed with patients at the center, including calming natural light throughout the building and cozy, supportive infusion chairs.

The galleries and studios offer a world-class art experience as one of the finest facilities of its kind in the southwestern United States.

The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, a $155 million project currently under construction, will be the home to the Lubbock Ballet and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, as well as traveling music and theater performances.

In the heart of one of the fastest growing wine regions in the country, Lubbock is known as “The Napa Valley of the South” with five unique, individual wineries within the city limits. In fact, the area surrounding Lubbock, known as the High Plains, produces 80 percent of the wine grapes in Texas.
