Install, replace, and maintain campus landscape to university standards—turf, shrubs, hardscape construction—and report trouble conditions that may pose safety hazards. Irrigate new and existing landscape—including turf, trees, shrubs—to maintain plant health, abide by water restrictions, perform or report minor irrigation repairs, and aid in small irrigation installations. Pick up litter, empty trash receptacles, and keep university properties neat and orderly. Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and power tools, maintain preventive maintenance schedules, report maintenance repairs, clean equipment, and maintain proper fluid levels in all equipment used by Landscape Services. Clean, maintain, and operate a university vehicle and maintain an acceptable driver’s rating. Follow written and oral instructions, maintain work schedule set by the supervisor, complete routine paperwork—including weekly electronic time reports and other UT-related electronic forms—and work independently and as part of a team at various university locations. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for each task, follow safety rules, and promote good safety habits. Perform other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications High School graduation or GED. One year of experience in the maintenance or operation of commercial‑sized landscape equipment (e.g., tractors and riding mowers). One year experience in landscape maintenance or construction. Ability to communicate effectively with co‑workers, office staff, and the university community. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. Demonstrated stable work history and work ethic. Punctual attendance and availability for work. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (weather, dust, noise, heights, fumes, etc.). Class C driver’s license required. If not a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days of becoming a resident. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Degree or trade‑specific licensure or certification. More than one year of experience in landscape maintenance, construction, repair, or operation of commercial landscape equipment (to include riding mowers, tractors, loaders, sweepers). More than two years’ experience in landscape maintenance or construction. Driving Requirement This position requires a Class C driver’s license. A current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence is required. If not a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a resident. Employees required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing.
