Middle School College Prep Coordinator

Summary:The ideal candidate will have high energy coupled with a passion for helping urban middle school students in post-secondary preparation. Candidates must be committed to distributed leadership, actively participate in a professional learning community, and embrace families and the community to achieve a common outcome for the student achievement in a school. Candidateshould possess strong interpersonal and (oral/written) communication skills; be detail-oriented,independent and flexible; as well as have patience and empathy for adolescents and theirfamilies.Duties and Responsibilities:Supports University Prep Schools’ goal of ensuring 90% graduation, 90% post-secondary enrollment, and 90% FAFSA completion through various college and career readiness strategies and initiativesAssists college counselor with coordination of college and career readiness activities, trips, and events for studentsAssists college counselor with administrative tasks including file management, college material mailings, and database tracking systemsUtilizes technology systems and other sources to track and manage data pertaining to summer program activity, college application statuses, and scholarship outcomesProvides direct assistance to students with tasks required for successful college enrollment, college entrance exam registration, scholarship completion, and summer program participationConducts ongoing research and provides resources on college admissions, financial aid and scholarship, and summer program opportunities for studentsDevelops and disseminates an ongoing list of scholarship opportunities and resources for middle school scholars.Develops and disseminates ongoing database/listing of summer enrichment program opportunities for grades 6th -8thAttends middle school staff meetings as determined by school siteAttends professional development conferences in college admissions and financial aid as requiredEvening and weekend availability is requiredEducation/Experience:Bachelor's degree in an educational or human service field (preferred)Experience working with students in a high school setting is strongly preferredExperience providing instruction in a classroom setting is desirableStrong communication and human relations skills are requiredDemonstrates U Preps Core Values:We work well by ourselves and teamsWe care about peopleOur actions have a purposeWe think big and doLearning is excitingAbout U Prep Schools:If you are dedicated to a pursuit of excellent both in yourself and our students; if you are self-motivated; if you are an innovator and if you want to play a key role in changing young lives—we are looking for U.
