Summary About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. For more information on Red River Army Depot, go to the following web site: Responsibilities Direct the planning, scheduling and the conduct of surveys and inspections of safety programs. Conduct investigations to identify casual factors and recommend countermeasures to control or eliminate hazards. Evaluate adequacy of safety programs to cope with operational factors. Perform supervisory duties to include: Assign/monitor work; prepare schedules for completion of work; develop performance standards, evaluate performance; effect disciplinary actions, resolve complaints/grievances; and identify training needs. Facilitate training for subordinate safety professionals. Monitor environmental parameters, and conduct inspections including recommendations for corrective action. Provide oversight of programs related to the disposition and disposal of hazardous and toxic materials. Evaluate technical aspects of design, development, testing and operation of Army materiel, equipment, and facilities. Develop policy and plans for the Activity to carry out assigned safety responsibilities. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conducting safety inspections and identifying hazards in industrial and maintenance operations; 2) Performing accident investigations and hazard analyses involving heavy equipment, munitions, and hazardous materials; 3) Developing and delivering required safety training and evaluating its effectiveness; 4) Coordinating safety actions with supervisors and support staff and recommending corrective measures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
