Medical Assistant II - University Health Lakewood Orthopedic Clinic

The Medical Assistant II provides clinical and administrative support in ambulatory and procedural settings under the direction of a physician. This role provides patient care within the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice, assists with procedures, supports patient education, and mentors new Medical Assistants and students. The Medical Assistant II also contributes to team-based care and performance improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice and under appropriate supervision
• Assist with clinical procedures, patient education, and other care activities as needed
• Serve as a resource and mentor for new Medical Assistants and affiliate students
• Support effective communication and collaboration across the healthcare team
• Perform POCT, immunizations, injections, and other duties within scope
• Monitor supplies, equipment, and infection prevention concerns and take appropriate action
• Identify opportunities for improvement and participate in performance improvement initiatives
• Promote patient safety, quality care, cultural competency, and excellent customer service
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or 1 year of experience in a direct patient care role within the last 3 years
• Current CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), NRCMA (NAHP), or CCMA (NHA) certification; certification must be maintained for continued employment
• Current BLS certification upon hire and maintained for continued employment
• Three years' experience as a Medical Assistant with a minimum of 1 year of employment within the organization in a relevant role
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to provide guidance, direction, mentoring, and education to staff and students
• Ability to perform POCT, immunizations, and injections
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and problem solve Excellent organizational skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications and basic computer skills
• No disciplinary actions within the previous 6 months from the transfer date to Medical Assistant II
• If responsible for radiologic functions, must have radiology certification/training through the Medical Assistant program or validated training through a radiology competency checklist
