Job Title: Locksmith Requisition Number: 44891 Employment Type: Full Time Division: SUPPORT SERVICES - FACILITIES, TRANS, POLICE Compensation Type: Hourly Job Category: Support Services Hours Worked: 7am - 3:30 pm Location: John Peter Smith Hospital Shift Worked: Day Job Description The Locksmith is responsible for timely maintenance, repair, and installation of locks, door closures, and electronic locking systems throughout JPS Health Network. The Locksmith makes, installs, repairs, and modifies keys and/or locks, and maintains documents and records. Typical Duties Makes new keys for duplication, impressions, and key codes. Fits keys to lock setting pins to open locks with new or multiple keys. Visually inspects and operates locks and latches for proper function, restoring them to operational condition by disassembling, cleaning, oiling, repairing, or replacing damaged parts of internal mechanisms. Modifies key and combination locks when the security of existing locks is compromised, adapting existing locks to fit into JPS Health Network Code Management System; drilling or punching center holes, cutting slots, and filling parts to size as needed. Services combination-type locks, establishing new combinations or changing them. Replaces defective locks, uses mechanical tools to open jammed combination locks, removes broken keys, and opens locks in emergency situations. Assigns master numbers to keys. Stencils or stamps keys to match locks, ensuring the integrity of the key management system is maintained. Installs, maintains, changes, codes, and repairs various commercial locking devices, such as electric releases, strikers, specialized manufacturer door openers, and security systems, in sensitive areas of the hospital. Orders parts, repurposes non-serviceable locks for salvageable parts, and maintains lock supply levels. Maintains administrative records and completes paperwork, researching manufacturer data for relevant job information. Provides technical assistance, guidance, and training to lower-level workers on locksmith work. Assists planners with in-house projects involving secure locking systems, ensuring compatibility with installed systems when assigned. Provides advice to engineers on design projects related to security systems when assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. 4+ years of experience with repairing, replacing, and/or maintaining various lock types and building security systems. OR High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Vocational or Technical school certification specializing in Locksmith work. Location Address: 1500 S.
