- Director, Technology FinOpsNew YorkFinOps100k – 150k11/07/2026Full-timeOnsiteFavoriteAccess Job## Job Description# Director, FinOps\*\*Location:\*\* New York City## About the RoleThe Director of FinOps will establish and lead BNY’s Technology FinOps capability, with responsibility for improving financial accountability and maximizing return on technology investment across a complex, multi-cloud, multi-vendor environment. Reporting to both the Engineering Hub Lead and the CFO, Engineering, this role will define the operating model, build and manage the team, and embed cost-aware decision-making across engineering and finance.The initial focus is cloud and AI cost management, with the scope expected to expand into data platform economics and, over time, software usage-based contracts. The role owns the full FinOps lifecycle, including visibility, allocation, optimization, and governance.This position partners closely with Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and Engineering Analytics to create transparent reporting, stronger cost controls, and AI-enabled workflows that support better business and commercial decisions.## Key Responsibilities– Define and execute the enterprise FinOps strategy, including the operating model and roadmap for agentic products and autonomous workflows. – Build and lead the FinOps team, including hiring and capability development. – Work with Finance to establish cost taxonomy, allocation rules, tagging standards, showback and chargeback models, forecasting, auditability, and unit economics. – Create data products that provide allocation transparency by business unit, product, application, environment, owner, and workload type. – Manage commitment-based spend and improve coverage versus utilization across cloud providers. – Develop forecasting models, unit economics tracking, and business-outcome reporting. – Partner with Engineering Analytics to standardize spend data, maintain an authoritative cost graph, and oversee lineage and data quality checks. – Own the cost data pipeline from ingestion through near real-time reporting, including dashboards and conversational interfaces for Finance and Engineering. – Introduce automated alerting, recommendations, anomaly detection, and remediation workflows with human approval for higher-risk actions. – Lead governance cadences for operational reviews, forecast and budget reviews, and contract and architecture reviews. – Partner with Procurement and Legal on renewals, vendor rationalization, and commercial optimization. – Embed responsible AI practices across FinOps workflows.## Required Skills– 10+ years of experience in technology finance, cloud engineering, infrastructure operations, or a related field. – At least 3 years leading a FinOps or technology cost management function. – Experience building a FinOps capability from early maturity to a steady-state operating model in a large enterprise. – Strong understanding of cloud pricing models, commitment instruments, and consumption-based billing across major providers. – Experience designing allocation models, tagging taxonomies, and chargeback/showback frameworks. – Proven ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, finance, procurement, and executive leadership without formal authority. – Strong analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills. – Experience in financial services or another regulated industry. – Ability to translate AI-driven insights into practical decisions.## Preferred Skills– Experience building agentic systems, including rule-based and learning agents. – Experience with MLOps/FinOps integrations. – Experience with forecasting and anomaly detection methods. – Experience applying responsible AI governance in production environments.## Cloud Platforms & Technologies### Cloud Providers – Multi-cloud environment – Major cloud providers### AI & Automation – Agentic products – Autonomous workflows – Self-service AI assistants – Anomaly detection agents – Variance reporting copilots – Automated remediation workflows – Human-in-the-loop approvals – Conversational agents – Automated alerting – Recommendations and enforcement – Responsible AI practices – Rule-based and learning agents – MLOps/FinOps integrations### Data & Analytics – Cost data model – Cost graph – Data products – Spend data pipeline – Lineage checks – Data quality checks – Forecasting models – Unit economics – Near real-time reporting### FinOps Concepts – Cost taxonomy – Allocation rules – Metadata and tagging standards – Showback – Chargeback – Commitment-based spend – Coverage versus utilization## FinOps Responsibilities– Define the enterprise FinOps strategy and operating model. – Build cost allocation, tagging, showback, and chargeback frameworks. – Improve visibility into cloud, AI, and data platform spend. – Optimize commitment coverage and utilization. – Build forecasting and unit economics reporting. – Establish cost governance and review cadences. – Support contract and vendor optimization with Procurement and Legal. – Use AI-enabled workflows to automate detection, reporting, and remediation.## Benefits– Competitive base salary range of $136,500 to $230,000 per year. – May include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives. – Company-sponsored benefits. – Competitive compensation, wellbeing programs, and flexible global resources and tools. – Generous paid leave, including paid volunteer time.## Why You Might Be InterestedThis is a senior opportunity to build a FinOps function from the ground up within a large, regulated global financial services organization.
