• Illinois Certification as Vision and Hearing Screening Technician, preferred

  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : The school nurse works 180 days in alignment with the contractual staff attendance calendar. Salary and working conditions are based on the collective bargaining agreement. Hours will align with the school building's contractual schedule.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Demonstrate support for the mission, beliefs, and goals of MSD114
• Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures
• Provide direct nursing services, first aid, illness and urgent care to students in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
• Performs mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing (requires state credentials as a screener) along with appropriate follow-up and reporting procedures
• Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter
• Maintains cumulative health records for all students, including immunizations
• Recommends exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with Board of Education policy on infectious and contagious diseases
• Administers medication in compliance with state regulations, district policies, and procedures
• Completes accident reports for students and staff
• Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
• Maintains communication with parents, teachers and other school personnel to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of students
• Develop individual school health care plans, as necessary, to outline the plan of care for students with acute and chronic health care conditions
• Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in the school
• Assists in preparation and data collection for county and state required reports relative to student health
• Establish procedures, collect and compile information to complete state and county required reports
• Participate in Special Education referrals, Individualized Education Plans and Section 504 Plans as appropriate, including preparation of health histories
• Provide staff in-service programs on health topics as directed
• Coordinate the purchasing and maintenance of health and OSHA supplies and equipment for the health office and building.
• Attends building and department level meetings as required.
• Serve as leader of building Cardiac Emergency Response Team.
• Maintain professional training and knowledge of ISBE, IDPH, and Will County requirements relative to student health.
• With matters regarding district medical policies and procedures, all decisions will be cleared through the nurse with the most in-district experience and presented to the superintendent for final approval.
