Role & Responsibilities Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications. Develop and manage strategic patent portfolios for biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients. Advise clients on patent protection strategies throughout the innovation lifecycle. Work directly with scientists, inventors, research institutions, and in‑house counsel. Collaborate with attorneys across a nationally recognized intellectual property practice. Technical Focus The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the following technologies: Synthetic Organic Chemistry Organic Chemistry Biochemistry Pharmaceutical Sciences Chemical and Life Sciences Innovations Expected Compensation $220,000–$265,000, depending on title, experience, scientific credentials, qualifications, and other job‑related factors. Requirements J.D. from an accredited law school. Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office required. Active bar admission in Illinois. Master’s or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline. Approximately five or more years of patent preparation and prosecution experience in a law firm environment. Demonstrated ability to independently draft high‑quality patent applications and manage complex prosecution matters. Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and client counseling skills.
