Controller (Part-Time)

MPD Controller Position

MPD has been on the cutting edge of public defense since our inception in 1971. Formed as a non-profit law firm, MPD contracts with the State of Oregon as well as a variety of federal, county, municipal and private contracts to provide a wide array of criminal, juvenile dependency, civil, and immigration defense legal services. MPD is the largest single provider of trial level public defense services in the state of Oregon, with offices in both Multnomah and Washington counties.

MPD is currently searching for a Controller. The Controller monitors the organization's general ledger accounting and process documentation for completeness and accuracy, reconciles balance sheet accounts, and leads the month and year-end close process. They will also maintain MPD's fixed assets ledger and reconcile to the general ledger. This position is responsible for maintaining internal controls in compliance with company policy, ensuring documentation is audit-ready, and supporting the Finance Director in maintaining GAAP and 2 CFR Part 200 compliance. The Controller is a member of the Finance & Accounting team and receives general supervision from the Finance Director.

This position pays $34,567.00 - $46,258.00 per year. Staff is an at-will employee. This is an in-office, part-time (0.5 FTE) exempt position. In addition to compensation, MPD also offers:

• PTO – 12 hours upon hire and accrue monthly to 40 hours and increase to 60 hours starting at 24 months
• 10 paid holidays + 2 personal equity days
• 4 Mental Health Days per year
• Sick Leave – 24 hours upon hire and accrues monthly after the completion of six months of employment

Position Qualifications

• BA in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience
• 3-5 years progressive accounting experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
• Creativity and flexibility in solving problems and meeting challenges
• Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system experience (Oracle and/or NetSuite strongly preferred)
• Expertise in general ledger accounting
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Position Preferences

• CPA license preferred
• Non-profit or grants management experience
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Work Environment:
