RN - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU

The Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU will provide dedicated care in an intensive care unit setting, primarily focusing on cardiac and neuro patients. The successful candidate will be scheduled according to facility policies and is expected to work rotating weekends and holidays alongside hospital staff.

General Information

• Location: North Charleston, SC
• Unit: 65020 ICU
• Number of Beds: 28 (mixed ICU)
• Patient Ratios: 1:2 to 1:3 with inpatient PCU/med-surg admissions
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: 3 - 12 hour shifts per week, including every other weekend
• Floating Policy: Travelers are the first to float and may be assigned to the emergency department or PCU to assist with holds

Patient Experience Requirements

Bedside shift reporting is the standard method for patient handoff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 36 months of RN experience, with at least one year in an ICU setting.
• Previous travel nursing assignment experience is preferred, especially in a facility utilizing Meditech.
• Ability to manage 1-3 ICU patients, with comfort in ventilator management.
• Proficient in reading telemetry strips.
• Prior CVICU experience is highly valued.

Advanced Skills Needed

• Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
• Advanced Hemodynamics
• Phlebotomy
• Administration of respiratory treatments such as inhalers and nebulizers

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Post-operative day 0 CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
• Management of impellas, balloon pumps, Swan Ganz catheters, and advanced hemodynamics
• Neuro procedures for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, including experience with EVDs (External Ventricular Drains) and bolts
• Induced hypothermia with Arctic Sun technology

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) is preferred
• Advanced certifications, including TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), are preferred

Dress Code

Required uniform: Navy uniform.

This unit is dedicated to training travelers who are interested in developing skills in Neuro ICU or Cardiovascular ICU nursing. There are opportunities to gain experience with head and neck flap procedures. We are proud to be one of the 14 programs in the nation specializing in this area.
