Regular inter-island travel may be required depending on project needs.Job/Employment Type: Full TimeProject Scope: Commercial HVAC, refrigeration, rooftop units, system replacements, service repairs, preventive maintenance, and multi-site facility support across HawaiiMandatory Licenses & Certifications: None required at hire; EPA 608 or related HVAC/R certifications preferredThe Opportunity\nIsland Facility Services is seeking an experienced HVAC/R Technician to support commercial HVAC and refrigeration service work across Hawaii. This role is ideal for a technician who can troubleshoot independently, communicate clearly in the field, and support commercial clients across retail, restaurant, hospitality, grocery, and facility environments.\nThis is not a shop-based role. Most technicians dispatch from home or from their company vehicle and travel directly to commercial job sites. Work may include rooftop units, split systems, mini-splits, refrigeration systems, coolers, line sets, controls, electrical troubleshooting, system replacements, preventive maintenance, and emergency service calls.\nYou will join a growing company with steady commercial work, a True Ohana culture, and opportunities for paid training, certifications, travel, and long-term career growth.How You Will Make an Impact\n\n \n Diagnose, service, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems across retail, restaurant, hospitality, grocery, and commercial facilities.\n \n Troubleshoot rooftop units, split systems, mini-splits, refrigeration systems, electrical components, controls, refrigerant issues, airflow issues, and related mechanical systems.\n \n Support system replacements, equipment changeouts, preventive maintenance, and project-based HVAC/R work.\n \n Perform refrigerant handling, recovery, charging, leak checks, and system testing according to safety and compliance standards.\n \n Travel directly to job sites from home or company vehicle and work independently with minimal supervision.\n \n Support inter-island projects when needed, including work on Oahu, Maui, Big Island, Kauai, or other locations based on client needs.\n \n Communicate clearly with managers, clients, and internal teams regarding diagnostics, repair options, parts needs, job status, and next steps.\n \n Respond with urgency to emergency service needs, including after-hours calls when required.\n \n Document work performed, materials used, system findings, and recommended follow-up actions.\n \n Help train or support helpers and junior technicians when assigned.\n \n Maintain safe, clean, and professional work areas in active commercial environments.\nRequired Qualifications & Experience\n\n \n Minimum of 3 years of commercial HVAC/R experience.\n \n Experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial HVAC and/or refrigeration systems.\n \n Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills.\n \n Ability to work independently in the field without daily direct supervision.\n \n Ability to read and follow work orders, diagnose issues, identify needed parts, and communicate repair recommendations.\n \n Willingness to dispatch from home or company vehicle and travel directly to commercial job sites.\n \n Willingness to travel inter-island as needed for project work or service coverage.\n \n Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle or travel between job sites as required.\n \n Professional communication skills when interacting with clients, managers, and field teams.\n \n Ability to support urgent or after-hours service calls when required.\nPreferred Qualifications & Experience\n\n \n 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC/R service, repair, installation, or maintenance.\n \n EPA 608 certification, especially Universal Certification.\n \n HVAC or refrigeration trade school, technical training, or apprenticeship experience.\n \n Experience with rooftop units, refrigeration systems, mini-splits, controls, line sets, leak detection, charging, recovery, and electrical troubleshooting.\n \n Experience with commercial retail, restaurant, grocery, hospitality, or facility maintenance environments.\n \n Experience with system replacements, equipment changeouts, or project-based HVAC/R work.\n \n Manufacturer-specific training such as Carrier, Trane, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Lennox, or similar.\n \n OSHA, lift, fall protection, crane signaler, or other safety certifications.\n \n Ability to support basic related facility maintenance tasks when HVAC/R workload allows.\nCompensation & Benefits\n\n \n $38.00–$48.00 per hour, based on experience and skill level.\n \n Bi-weekly pay cycle.\n \n Overtime potential.\n \n Emergency work may include additional pay incentives where applicable.\n \n Comprehensive health package including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.\n \n Paid Time Off for holidays, vacation, and sick leave.\n \n Company vehicle access where applicable.\n \n Professional technology package, including company-provided smartphone or tablet.\n \n Travel support, including relocation assistance and per diem for remote projects where applicable.\n \n Personal tool replacement program and uniforms provided.\n \n Paid training and certifications, including manufacturer training, OSHA, Fall Protection, lift training, EPA-related training, and other role-relevant programs.\nAbout Us\nIsland Facility Services is a leader in commercial maintenance, facility services, HVAC/R, and construction across Hawaii.
