Description of Work
The Community Nutrition Specialist is a vital health professional who helps improve the health and well-being of families-especially women, infants, and children through direct nutrition education and support services provided as part of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for certifying eligible participants for WIC benefits, providing individual and group nutrition education, offering dietary and health risk counseling, and making appropriate referrals within the Public Health Department and community programs. This role combines science-based nutrition guidance with meaningful client interaction in a supportive, community-centered environment. This position offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of underserved populations across Muskegon County by promoting healthy eating habits, addressing nutritional risk factors, and ensuring access to public health services. The position is ideal for compassionate professionals who enjoy teaching and working with diverse populations and advocating for better health occurrences. Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university with a major in Food and Nutrition, Home Economics, Dietetics or related field such as Nutrition Science, Public Health Nutrition, Community Health, Health Education, or Family and Consumer Science.
2. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Physical Conditions / Work Location PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
This position involves primarily sedentary work with occasional standing, walking, and lifting of materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in the Public Health Department offices and community-based locations. Occasional travel within Muskegon County may be required for outreach, client visits, or off-site programming.
