Registered Nurse - Clinical - Hemotology/Oncology

Job Summary The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient’s hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines using a patient/customer‑driven approach. Job Responsibilities Perform comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment, including age‑appropriate admission and transfer assessments; gather input from family or guardians. Accurately document findings and provide post‑operative or post‑invasive procedure assessments. Assess and document education and discharge needs on admission and throughout hospitalization. Provide patient reassessment, documenting pertinent observations, changes in condition, response to care, and procedural updates. Establish, coordinate, and evaluate a plan of care based on assessment data, lab results, tests, physician orders, protocols, and other relevant information. Identify short‑ and long‑term goals; formulate nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes. Incorporate evidence‑based practice into care plans and documentation. Collaborate with the health‑team; coordinate daily care plans; provide and document nursing interventions. Administer and document medications accurately; monitor IV fluids and parenteral nutrition; complete referrals; request consultations; provide patient/family education and discharge planning. Clarify and implement physician orders; document readback for telephone or verbal orders; take orders only in emergencies. Recognize changes in patient condition; take appropriate nursing actions; involve family or guardians in decision‑making; recognize and act on risks and infection control practices. Document and communicate nursing care and changes in patient condition; evaluate effectiveness of care and education; modify plan of care as needed. Recognize significant clinical parameter changes and report promptly to physician and others. Identify problems, gather data, suggest solutions, and work toward resolution; report variations from care or treatment following policy. Provide specialized care for high‑risk patients, including restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment. Restraint Care: initiate/evaluate restraints, apply consistently, monitor response, provide requisite care, document use. Pain Management: assess pain, incorporate cultural/spiritual beliefs, implement techniques, involve family in planning. Abuse Assessment: recognize criteria, report signs, take appropriate action for patient safety. Adhere to all quality and performance standards; participate in learning experiences; demonstrate technical skills; maintain currency in policies and procedures. Orchestrate orientation and preceptorship of new employees; participate in committees and shared governance; supervise and teach students or new staff. Maintain safety and infection control: practice standard precautions, dispose of hazardous waste, maintain a clean therapeutic environment, follow hand hygiene, use safe patient handling, adhere to dress code, report risk management concerns. Complete all annual mandatory requirements: license, BLS/HI, TB screening, influenza vaccination, ethics and safety training, information security, abuse & neglect course, blood‑borne pathogens training, competency assessments. Deliver service excellence by providing prompt, respectful, and courteous care; meet patient, family, and visitor needs; communicate effectively; maintain confidentiality. Assist in developing and implementing nursing unit goals; participate in performance improvement processes; lead improvement teams; contribute to data collection and evaluation. Provide age‑appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of normal growth and development, skills to assess and interpret age‑specific data, and to involve families in decision‑making. Use resources efficiently, recommend changes to increase efficiency, document chargeable supplies, prioritize duties, and complete work on time. Qualifications Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri (or in Illinois, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin where applicable). Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification. Maintain active license and required certifications, including BLS, HI, TB screening, influenza vaccination, and other mandatory trainings. Working Conditions May be exposed to bloodborne diseases, unpleasant environments, emergencies, crisis situations, and irregular hours. Physical Requirements Occasional prolonged standing/walking; lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients; occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
