Emergency Management Coordinator

Description Teller County is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator to provide administrative and program support to the Emergency Manager to support the County’s emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. What You'll Do: (1) Provides administrative and program support for Emergency Management activities. (2) Maintains Emergency Management records, files, contact lists, databases, and other program documentation; coordinates routine updates and ensures information is current and readily accessible. (3) Provides administrative support for Emergency Management preparedness plans, annexes, procedures, intergovernmental agreements (IGAs), Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and related documents, including tracking required review and renewal deadlines and coordinating timely updates to ensure documents remain current. (4) Provides administrative support for Emergency Management grants, including tracking deadlines and expenditures, processing invoices and purchase orders, maintaining supporting documentation, and assisting with required grant and reimbursement reporting. (5) Maintains and provides authorized access to Hazardous Materials facility files and other required documentation for the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) in accordance with applicable requirements. (6) Assists with the preparation, maintenance, and distribution of emergency preparedness and public outreach materials, including approved website, print, social media, and other communications. (7) Provides support for emergency preparedness training and exercises, including coordination, documentation, and other activities necessary to plan, conduct, and evaluate exercises in accordance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). (8) May provide support in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergencies, disasters, exercises, and other activations, performing assigned functions such as documentation, situational information, communications, coordination with County employees and emergency volunteers, and other operational support. (9) During EOC activations, assists with resource mobilization and logistics, including coordinating with partner agencies, tracking resources, and maintaining or updating equipment and resource information in applicable state and federal databases. (10) Assists with incident and recovery documentation following emergencies and disasters, including records necessary to support damage assessment, reimbursement, after-action reporting, and corrective action tracking. Requirements What You'll Bring: Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in business administration, emergency management, public administration, or a related field preferred. Two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative, program coordination, records management, or related experience required. Experience in emergency management, public safety, local government, or a related environment preferred. Any acceptable combination of education, training, and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted. You Also Have These Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of: Principles and practices of administrative and program support, records and document management, and general office procedures; basic principles of emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. Skilled in: Organizing and maintaining accurate records and documentation; tracking deadlines, requirements, and multiple assignments; preparing correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents; coordinating meetings, activities, and logistical needs; using standard office technology and software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; communicating and working effectively with County employees, partner agencies, and the public. Ability to: Learn and apply emergency management terminology, procedures, systems, and regulatory requirements; maintain accurate and complete records and follow established documentation requirements; organize and prioritize work to meet established deadlines; exercise sound judgment and attention to detail; handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately; work independently while following established direction and procedures; adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in emergency or high‑pressure situations; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Additional Details About the Role: Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: This position requires the normal range of vision, hearing, and speaking; must be able to read and write and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Physical Effort/Dexterity: Work is primarily performed in an office environment and requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and the use of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. During emergencies, disasters, training, or exercises, may be required to perform duties in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Environmental Factors: Work is performed primarily in an office environment with frequent interaction with County employees, partner agencies, and the public. The position may require attendance at meetings, training, exercises, and other Emergency Management activities at various locations. When assigned to support emergency operations, work may involve adverse weather conditions and other challenging environments. Work Schedule/Characteristics: This position is generally scheduled to work Monday through Friday during normal County business hours. The position may occasionally require work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours, to support training, exercises, Emergency Operations Center activations, emergencies, or disasters. License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license. Must obtain National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) certifications, including ICs-100, ICs-200, IS-700, and IS-800, within the timeframe designated by the Emergency Manager. Additional emergency management training may be required based on assigned responsibilities.
