Work 1:1 with one student

Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – School Health Aide

Reports To: School Nurse (RN) / School Administrator

Job Summary

Provides direct care, health monitoring, and daily living support for students—including those with special needs or chronic conditions—under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Key Responsibilities

• Direct Care: Assist students with daily living activities (toileting, feeding, hygiene, mobility, and transfers).
• Health Support: Measure and log vital signs; perform delegated tasks (e.g., glucose checks, tube feeding, catheter care) per student care plans.
• Specialized Assistance: Support students during classroom transitions, recess, cafeteria visits, and bus loading/unloading.
• Emergency & First Aid: Provide basic first aid and assist the RN during medical emergencies (e.g., seizures, allergic reactions).
• Documentation: Accurately track daily care, observations, and health logs following FERPA/HIPAA guidelines.
• Sanitation: Sanitize health equipment and office spaces using standard infection control procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Licensure: Active listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry in good standing (CNA II required if performing advanced care).
• Certifications: Current AHA or Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid certification (in-person skills check).
• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Clearances: Pass background checks, drug screening, and required health screenings/immunizations (including TB test).
• Skills & Physical Demands: Experience in pediatrics or special needs preferred. Ability to safely lift/transfer students (up to 50 lbs) and follow RN directions accurately.
