Job Summary The Accounting Manager oversees accounting functions for grants, sponsored programs, and fixed assets, and provides supervision and administrative leadership for senior and staff accountants. The position monitors all restricted fund activity for the College, including federal, state, local, and private grants, student financial aid programs, and direct lending. The Accounting Manager manages grant invoicing, reporting, reconciliations, compliance requirements, and the posting of grant budgets and modifications. The role supervises restricted fund accounting tasks, general ledger activity, internal service charge distribution, and daily operations within Business Services. The position also supervises fixed asset accounting, inventory, surplus property processes, and capital construction accounting. Additional responsibilities include preparing financial summaries, completing balance sheet reconciliations, maintaining chart of accounts documentation, developing and updating accounting procedures, supporting federal and state financial aid grant reconciliations and drawdowns, ensuring internal controls, and coordinating documentation in the Banner and BDM systems. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Effective communication and customer service skills, demonstrated intermediate to advanced spreadsheet (Excel) skills, familiarity with Cognos, Monarch, or other electronic reporting tools. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional accounting experience OR a master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with at least 18 completed accounting credits. • Three years progressively responsible professional accounting experience. • Two years directly supervising two or more employees including performance planning and evaluation. • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and government accounting standards as evidenced by at least two years’ experience performing accounting for and/or auditing of state‑funded agencies or higher‑education institutions. • Demonstrated knowledge of OMB Circulars and federal and state statutes applicable to grants and federal contracts‑evidenced by two or more years’ experience preparing and/or reviewing federal and state grant reporting and billing or federal government contract accounting. Preferred Qualifications Certified Public Accountant or candidate, Certified Federal Grants Manager, or other appropriate fiscal or grant related certification. Two years’ experience with accounting in a state agency, community college, or other higher‑education setting. Audit/public accounting experience. Physical & Cognitive Demands Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs. This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc. The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
