Opportunity for licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) to work for yourself as a consulting project engineer. 

\n

Level Engineering & Architecture is seeking a Licensed Structural Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the Tampa & Orlando Metro and surrounding areas. 1099 contract, up-capped commissions, a full workload opportunity that allows for flexibility, within the Metro region.

\n

\n

Hybrid Location : Day-to-day work is remote, with local presence required for site visits, meetings, and municipal coordination.

\n

\n

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

\n

\n
• Execute structural engineering analysis and design for residential and commercial building projects
\n
• Develop structural solutions for new construction, renovations, and existing structures, including field-informed design decisions
\n
• Prepare structural calculations, construction documents, technical reports, and engineering narratives
\n
• Conduct and document structural inspections, condition assessments, and retrofit recommendations as needed
\n
• Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, surveyors, geotechnical consultants, and internal design teams
\n
• Communicate directly with clients, municipalities, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout design and permitting
\n
• Project Manage individual projects and client relationships independently
\n
• Apply and interpret applicable building codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements across project types
\n
• Support quality control, constructability review, and project delivery schedules from concept through completion
\n
• Engineers/Architects who experience the highest success develop and maintain a personal referral-based project pipeline
\n

QUALIFICATIONS

\n

Required :

\n

\n
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
\n
• 6+ years of professional structural engineering experience across residential and commercial projects 
\n
• Demonstrated experience performing structural inspections and analysis in compliance with local building codes
\n
• Experience producing structural calculations, construction documents, and technical reports
\n
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
\n
• Experience coordinating with consultants, architects, contractors, and project partners
\n
• Ability to manage projects independently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment
\n
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and client correspondence
\n
• Authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship)
\n

Preferred :

\n

\n
• Familiarity with municipal permitting, plan review, and inspection processes
\n
• Prior experience working directly with clients on identifying project scope, recommendations, and follow-through
\n
• Experience exercising professional judgment on existing structures, renovations, and field conditions
\n
• Comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating within a distributed team environment
\n

Level additionally provides professional liability (E&O) insurance coverage , removing a significant cost and risk burden typically borne by independent contractors. This coverage is included as part of the overall compensation structure.

COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE

\n

\n
• This is a  1099 contracted role offering flexible schedule and growth as an independent engineer.
\n
• Typical annual earnings range from $75,000 to $175,000 (uncapped) , depending on workload and capability.
\n
• Uncapped earning potential tied directly to project volume and individual capacity
\n

\n

 

\n

The first 60–90 days are treated as a ramp period to allow time for onboarding, systems integration, and pipeline development before transitioning into the standard production minimum requirements.
