Sustainability AnalystLocation: San Francisco, CA/Hybrid Duration: 6 monthsJob description: Mostly independent, hands-on analysis in spreadsheets, SQL/Python and Net Zero Cloud. They'll clean and QA activity data, run Scope 1, 2 and 3 calculations, and update methodology and process documentation. A big part of the day is following up with data owners and stakeholders to get data on time, and tracking the status of their reviews and sign-offs. They'll also make data requests of stakeholders and assurance and CDP reviewers. The worker will join regular GHG accounting meetings and work alongside the rest of our accounting team in SF (approximately 3-4 people).Must have skills: Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Scope 3 accounting methods Attention to detail Experience in ESG and corporate sustainability Advanced spreadsheet skills (pivot tables, lookups, array formulas) and QC across large datasets Preparing documentation and process narratives for third-party audit Written and verbal communication, and managing multiple prioritiesTeachable skills: Net Zero Cloud Claude Code Client process for GHG accounting Optional skills: SQL and python Experience with large unstructured datasets Tableau of data visualization experienceHow many years of experience would you consider overqualified: 5+ years How many years of experience would you consider underqualified: 1 or less years. It is critical not to find generic data analysts, we need people with experience in GHG or ESG reporting.Primary Responsibilities:Greenhouse Gas Emissions AccountingAnalyze company activity data and perform GHG emissions calculations across Scopes 1, 2, and 3.Perform Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG foot printing and emissions calculations, with a particular focus on Scope 3: Spend Data and Hybrid Methodology, Upstream Leased Assets, Use of Sold Products, Franchises, and Investments.Support third-party assurance and CDP disclosure processes by fulfilling related data and documentation requests.Document and refine process narratives, calculation methodologies, and inventory management practices.Support QA/QC and reporting in Net Zero Cloud (NZC)Research evolving industry trends, sustainability standards and frameworks, and emissions calculation/modeling methodologies.Reporting and AccountabilityManage data collection and stakeholder coordination for assigned categories, ensuring timely submission for sustainability reporting and compliance.Ensure data accuracy and consistency in emissions reporting.Deliver clear and timely data and insights to business partners to inform decision-making, using data visualization tools such as Tableau.Perform ad hoc sustainability data analysis and reporting needs as they arise.About you:You have ambitions to drive positive global impact for people, nature and climate You love diving into the weeds of primary data collection, GHGP methodologies, evolving standards and preparation for external assurance You have an analytical eye, brilliant organizational skills, and precise attention to detail and are skilled at documenting process You have strong communication and project management skills You possess an engineering mindset toward data, constantly looking for ways to automate and streamline processes with AI and software tools You are not afraid to ask questions and are enthusiastic about learning, developing, and improving operational processesRequired Experience: Delivered a GHG inventory through assurance, including Scope 3 accounting; multiple years of experience preferred. Demonstrated experience preparing data, process narratives, and documentation for third-party audit and assurance processes. Working knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, including category-specific calculation approaches (e.g. spend-based, activity-based, hybrid, average-data, supplier-specific methods) Strong core technical skills with high proficiency in complex spreadsheet-based calculations (pivot tables, lookups, array formulas), data analysis, and quality control across large activity datasets Comfortable working with a third party / professional services organization Ability to problem solve and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Excellent written and oral communication skills Positive, team-oriented, hands-on, and flexible attitudePreferred Qualifications: Experience with Claude Code or similar AI coding agents to accelerate workflow automation and data analysis Familiarity with SQL and Python for data querying/analysis or automated workflow scripting.
