Mental Health Clinician

We are hiring a Mental Health Clinician at CUCS!

Client Name: Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS)

Client Details: An acclaimed human services organization and one of the nation’s largest providers of housing and social services in New York City. CUCS delivers integrated programs linking housing, health, and social services for individuals experiencing homelessness, low income, mental illness, or other special needs.

Program: Paul's Place

Location: 112 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10011 (Greenwich Village, Manhattan)

Responsibilities

1. Direct Clinical Care & Counseling

• Provide individual psychotherapy, counseling, and substance use counseling to promote medical and psychiatric stability.
• Conduct evidence-based, therapeutic, wellness self-management, and activity-based clinical groups.
• Work collaboratively with clients to develop and monitor person-centered service plans (ILPs) incorporating health, employment, education, and diagnosis factors.

2. Assessments & Evaluations

• Perform intake, initial eligibility, and ongoing assessments to track progress and adjust treatment plans.
• Conduct mental health evaluations, mental status examinations, psychosocial assessments, and DSM-based diagnoses.

3. Crisis Intervention & Care Coordination

• Provide advanced, trauma-informed crisis intervention and de-escalation support.
• Coordinate with emergency services and perform in-reach to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and jails for discharge planning.
• Collaborate with external healthcare providers, collaterals, and psychiatric resources (including Janian referrals).

4. Housing Placement & Maintenance

• Assist clients through the complete housing process: identification, application, documentation, interviews, transition, and move-in.
• Provide ongoing housing stabilization support, including lease recertifications, arrears management, inspection preparation, and landlord communication.

5. Practical & ADL Support

• Conduct in-home visits and support Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, laundry, cleaning, pest/hoarding remediation, and packing.
• Manage pest treatment processes, including processing client items through the PackTite bed bug oven per agency protocol.

6. Benefits & Financial Assistance

• Help clients identify, apply for, and maintain federal, state, and local public benefits.
• Manage financial resources and deliver representative payee (rep-payee) services.

7. Community Outreach & Fieldwork

• Provide both on-site and field-based services, accompanying clients to medical appointments, benefits offices, housing interviews, shopping, court appearances, and job interviews.

8. Clinical Guidance & Leadership

• Guide Case Managers and team members during crises or in the Clinical Supervisor’s absence.
• Facilitate team meetings, supervise student interns (if applicable), and lead in-service trainings and policy reviews.

9. Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate database entries for progress notes, service plans, and benefit forms within required timeframes.
• Meet agency and funder standards, including required monthly client contact hours.
