Maintenance Worker

Washington County Public Works is seeking a dedicated and motivated Maintenance Worker to join our Traffic Divisionan essential part of keeping our communities moving safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role offers the opportunity to directly support a countywide roadway system that includes more than 16,000 signs, extensive pavement markings, and a wide range of traffic control assets.

As a Maintenance Worker in the Traffic Division, you'll take a hands-on role in installing, maintaining, and repairing road signs, pavement markings, and other traffic-related infrastructure. Work also includes supporting winter operations through snow plowing and treatment applications to help ensure safe travel conditions year-round. Daily tasks provide valuable practical experience in field decision-making, equipment operation, and traffic control maintenance.

This is a learning-focused position. Successful candidates will receive direct mentoring and support from experienced Traffic Division staff, including team members currently serving in these roles. You'll have opportunities to build technical skills, gain confidence in field operations, contribute meaningfully to your community, and establish a strong foundation for a long and successful career in public works and roadway maintenance.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

• Experience installing, repairing, and replacing highway signs, including locating and staking sign placement
• Experience fabricating sign faces and decals using pressure-sensitive methods, and designing sign faces with CAD software
• Experience with pavement marking operations striping truck operation, pavement messaging, paint preparation and loading, and warning vehicle operation
• Experience maintaining a sign and materials inventory using sign inventory or asset management software, including tracking work orders and determining supply needs
• Current Class A CDL with tanker endorsement, 5th wheel, and manual transmission
• Experience in snow and ice control operations including plowing and applying anti-icing and deicing materials

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration. HOURS / DAYS: 7:00 am - 3:30pm / Monday Friday / 40 hours per week. Work, schedules (hours and days) are subject to change based on department needs. ANTICIPATED PAY RATE: $27.31 - $32.69 Hourly
