This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model. The purpose of the Adult Education Teacher is to educate and supervise inmates by delivering instructional programs, maintaining classroom order, assessing student progress, providing counseling, and contributing to the development and administration of the educational program.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. JOB DUTIES: The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
- Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
- Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
- Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Beginning July 1, 2024, there is no longer a reemployment limitation; beginning with the 7th calendar month from the member's distribution date, there are no restrictions on working for an FRS employer. - Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.

- SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator's Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.
