Adult Education Teacher
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Florida State Prison in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model. The purpose of the Adult Education Teacher is to educate and supervise inmates by delivering instructional programs, maintaining classroom order, assessing student progress, providing counseling, and contributing to the development and administration of the educational program. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
Job duties include teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement. Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records. Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests. Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns. Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Requirements include a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate. Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator's Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.
