Summary
Responsible to assess, diagnose, treat and help prevent speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, fluency and other related disorders.
Yes Essential Functions
-Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
-Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.
-Implement treatment plans through a variety of techniques and modalities.
-Monitor and document patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed.
-Educate patients and their families about speech and language disorders, and provide strategies for improving communication.
-Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Speech-language Pathologist [State License] - Generic - HR Only required Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology [CCC-A] - American Speech Language Hearing Association preferred Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology [CCC-SLP] - American Speech Language Hearing Association preferred Experience

- Familiarity of diagnostic assessments for speech language.
- Employee must have strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures sufficiently to perform clinical services independently.
- Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology and speech-language pathology scope of practice.
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Knowledge of state standards, federal and state regulations.
Newton-Wellesley Hospital is recruiting for a per diem Speech Language Pathologist for the acute care service. One weekend day/month is required, and weekday availability is necessary on an as needed basis. Prior independent MBS and FEES experience (conducting and interpretation) preferred.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution
- Current, unrestricted license and certification as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ASHA. ASHA membership required.
- Current CPR certification
- At least two years of acute care/LTACH/acute rehab experience
- Independence in MBSS (required) and FEES (preferred)
Job Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive assessment and management of adult inpatients with disorders of swallowing, selecting evaluation procedures that reflect an in depth understanding of the patient's diagnosis, abilities, and limitations. This includes clinical swallowing evaluations and treatment, modified barium swallow studies (MBSS), and flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing (FEES).
- Comprehensive assessment and management of adult inpatients with acute disorders of speech, language, and cognition.
- Patient and caregiver education regarding evaluation findings and management of care recommendations
- Communication of patient care and discharge needs to healthcare team members, arranging for appropriate follow-up as indicated
- Completion of clear and thorough written documentation in a timely manner in accordance with facility and departmental guidelines
- Serve as a clinical resource to colleagues and other medical professionals
- Stay current with advances in speech-language pathology assessment/treatment techniques through attendance of professional meetings, continuing education, and reading of current literature.
