Position Title: VP, Head of Development - Cardiovascular

Position Summary

Accountable for end-to-end development of programs and transition of Cardiovascular programs from First In Human studies to commercialization. In this role, you will define the next chapter of Cardiovascular at BMS, with a mandate to build a differentiated, external competitive portfolio. This role represents a unique opportunity to shape and grow a focused but high-potential Cardiovascular portfolio. Backed by committed investment and strategic priority at the enterprise level, to expand Cardiovascular into a meaningful long-term growth driver for BMS. You will play a critical role in expanding the organization through external business development, deep partnership with Research, and strategic capability building. The ideal leader will balance delivery of current programs with a bold vision for growth, actively building the pipeline, organization, and impact of the function over time.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver Today (Run the Portfolio)

  • Set and execute the strategic direction for Cardiovascular assets across Early and Late Development, ensuring high-quality, on-time progression from First-in-Human through commercialization

  • Lead decision-making in governance forums, ensuring clear, data-driven recommendations across development programs and external opportunities

  • Accountable for performance and delivery of the portfolio, including clinical, regulatory, and program milestones

  • Lead and inspire a high-performing organization of Clinical Leaders, Clinical Scientists, and Global Program Leads, with clear accountability for asset strategy and execution

  • Ensure strong cross-functional execution and alignment across Development functions and key enterprise partners

Success in the role will include:

  • Advancing key assets decisively through critical development milestones

  • Establishing a clear, credible Cardiovascular growth strategy

  • Securing and advancing new external opportunities

  • Building a high-performing, scaled organization positioned for future growth

Build for the Future (Scale the Portfolio and Organization)

  • Define and execute a Cardiovascular growth strategy, expanding the portfolio through external business development and pipeline prioritization

  • Partner deeply with Research and other enterprise stakeholders to identify and advance new assets and scientific opportunities

  • Build and scale organizational capabilities to support a growing, differentiated Cardiovascular portfolio, including talent, structure, and ways of working

  • Coach and develop Clinical and Program Leaders to strengthen strategic thinking, decision-making, and enterprise leadership capabilities

  • Serve as a key internal and external leader, shaping partnerships, influencing senior stakeholders, and elevating the visibility and impact of the Cardiovascular function

Qualifications & Experience

  • Physician (MD, MD/PhD)

  • Extensive experience across early and late drug development

  • Proven leadership capability in managing large organizations and matrix teams

  • A minimum of 15 years in drug development (including clinical trial design and development to submission/ approval) with additional experience at Health Authorities and/or academic experience preferred and with proven progression in relevant roles.

  • Significant experience in Cardiovascular, including extensive knowledge of disease mechanisms, treatment modalities, and emerging trends and expertise in multiple relevant areas (e.g., clinical, regulatory, project planning and management, medical)

  • Demonstrated industry thought leadership in drug development

  • Exceptional team management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and inspire large organizations and foster a collaborative work environment

  • Ability to effectively convey complex scientific and clinical information to diverse audiences, including internal stakeholders, external partners, healthcare professionals, and regulatory authorities

Compensation Overview:

$383,210 - $464,355

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee's work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Paid Time Off

  • US Exempt Employees: flexible time off (unlimited, with manager approval, 11 paid national holidays (not applicable to employees in Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico or Rayzebio employees)

  • Phoenix, AZ, Puerto Rico and Rayzebio Exempt, Non-Exempt, Hourly Employees: 160 hours annual paid vacation for new hires with manager approval, 11 national holidays, and 3 optional holidays

Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.

All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.

* Eligibility Disclosure: T he summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.

On-site Protocol

BMS has an occupancy structure that determines where an employee is required to conduct their work. This structure includes site-essential, site-by-design, field-based and remote-by-design jobs. The occupancy type that you are assigned is determined by the nature and responsibilities of your role:

Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility. For these roles, onsite presence is considered an essential job function and is critical to collaboration, innovation, productivity, and a positive Company culture. For field-based and remote-by-design roles the ability to physically travel to visit customers, patients or business partners and to attend meetings on behalf of BMS as directed is an essential job function.
