Maintenance Mechanic

The incumbent performs work in one or more of the skilled building or service trades, on a journeyman level, in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities. Does related work as required.

Essential functions include:

• Regular daily attendance
• Ambulatory; ability to walk and carry heavy items and to be able to operate all related power equipment
• Good vision; ability to see well enough to meet standards set by supervisor or district
• Physical strength; enough strength to lift, move, and carry heavy items throughout the day (heavy items are defined as those that weigh over fifty (50) pounds)
• Intelligence; must be able to evaluate a problem, devise and implement a solution
• Social skills; must be able to work in a team environment

Performance responsibilities include:

• Performs skilled work with one or more of the building or service trades
• Performs work in the plumbing and heating trade
• Performs minor electrical work
• Plans work, estimates material and supplies required, may read blueprints to determine outcome of work indicated, interprets diagrams, charts and specifications, requests supplies and equipment.
• Operates power equipment hand tools and testing equipment, maintains equipment and shop in good condition
• May repair trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, and other equipment
• Cleans and paints walls, woodwork and floors
• May be required to perform occasional cleaning duties
• Other tasks as assigned

Reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Crew Chief, or an administrative employee of higher rank who assigns, observes and monitors the work.

May supervise and train lower level maintenance workers and laborers assigned to assist in the performance of related work.
