Equipment Operator / Landscape & Hydroseeding Technician (Manual Truck Driver)

Job Description

The Hydroseeding & Low-Voltage Lighting Specialist – Class 1 is a field-based position leading technical operations in hydroseeding application, outdoor low-voltage lighting, and permanent architectural/holiday lighting installations. The primary focus of this role is mixing and applying hydroseed slurry, installing low-voltage wiring and lighting systems, and safely operating heavy company vehicles. A minor portion of the role includes general landscape site prep to support hydroseeding and lighting setups.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be qualified and confident operating manual diesel trucks with air brakes. High consideration will be given to candidates with dual experience in hydroseeding and low-voltage electrical or permanent lighting installation.

Core Job Responsibilities

\n

Vehicle & Fleet Operation (Primary Focus)

\n

* Safely operate manual diesel trucks with air brakes and tow trailers to job sites in compliance with all traffic and DOT regulations.

\n

* Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections; keep assigned trucks fueled, clean, and road-ready.

\n

* Ensure heavy machinery, hydroseeding tanks, ladders, and electrical gear are safely loaded, balanced, and secured for transport.

\n

\n

Hydroseeding Operations (Primary Focus)

\n

* Prepare and mix hydroseeding slurry according to established recipes (seed, mulch, fertilizer, tackifier, and water ratios).

\n

* Operate high-pressure hose and spray equipment under foreman direction to apply slurry to slopes, disturbed areas, roadside projects, and residential/commercial sites.

\n

* Manage tank filling, setup, teardown, flush-out, and daily cleaning/maintenance of hydroseeding equipment.

\n

* Follow application procedures to meet project specifications and NCDOT standards where applicable.

\n

\n

L ow-Voltage Electrical & Permanent Lighting (Primary Focus)

\n

* Run, trench, splice, solder, and waterproof low-voltage electrical wiring for outdoor landscape lighting and permanent structure/holiday lighting systems.

\n

* Safely operate tools, ladders, scaffolding, or lifts to mount fixtures, channels, tracks, and controllers on roofs, fascia, and outdoor structures.

\n

* Assist in installing transformers, timers, smart controllers, and power supplies according to project specs and electrical safety standards.

\n

* Test lighting systems, perform initial troubleshooting (voltage drops, connections), and assist with final system adjustments.

\n

\n

Site Prep & Minor Landscaping (Secondary Snippet)

\n

* Perform minimal site prep tasks—such as light grading, trenching for wire runs, mulching, or moving plant materials—as needed to support hydroseeding and lighting installations.

\n

\n

Quality & Performance

\n

* Follow all procedures as taught by the foreman; ask clarifying questions to avoid misunderstandings.

\n

* Maintain clean wire management and consistent slurry quality while progressing toward greater efficiency.

\n

* Take ownership of assigned tasks and demonstrate the ability to perform work independently over time.

\n

\n

Safety

\n

* Follow all OSHA, ladder, fall protection, and company safety protocols at all times.

\n

* Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) for all tasks, especially when working at heights or around heavy equipment.

\n

\n

Teamwork & Communication

\n

* Maintain a positive attitude and work cooperatively with all crew members and supervisors.

\n

* Communicate proactively with the foreman regarding truck performance, equipment issues, or job progress.

\n

\n

Minimum Qualifications

\n

* Ability to operate manual diesel trucks with air brakes. — Required.

\n

* Valid Driver’s License with a clean motor vehicle record and full company insurability. — Required.

\n

* Comfort working at heights on ladders, scaffolding, or lifts for permanent lighting mounts. — Required.

\n

* English-language proficiency (spoken and written). — Required.

\n

* Physical Capability: Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and perform heavy outdoor labor in all weather conditions. — Required.

\n

* Prior experience in Hydroseeding, Low-Voltage Electrical Work, or Permanent Lighting. — Strongly Preferred.

\n

* Bilingual in English and Spanish. — Preferred.

\n

Essential Functions (ADA)

\n

The incumbent must be:

\n

* Comfortable operating manual diesel vehicles with air brakes safely.

\n

* Comfortable working at heights (ladders and rooflines) for extended periods.

\n

* Capable of lifting 50 pounds and performing vigorous, sustained physical labor in all outdoor weather conditions.

\n

* Able to maintain a valid driver’s license and company insurability at all times.

\n
