Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 13-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit with nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, with potential for 1:1 or 1:3 depending on acuity
• Manage complex patient populations including post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
• Titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
• Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently; monitor techs are available on the unit
• Collaborate with in-house intensivists, telemedicine intensivist support, respiratory therapy available 24/7, and a house supervisor on every shift
• Float to lower levels of care as needed, including Stepdown (up to 3 patients) or general medical environments (5–6 patients)

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Minimum ICU experience required; Level I trauma experience is a must
• Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard contract rate; candidates within 50 miles are subject to a local rate adjustment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP in an ICU setting
• Proficiency or prior experience with EPIC electronic health records
• Familiarity with endovascular and multi-system trauma patient management
