Mental Health Assistant 2 (35 Hour) (Office/On-site)

Location & Schedule 135 Holmes Dr, Middletown, CT Third shift, 11:15 p.m. – 7:15 a.m. Full‑time (35 hours/week) with rotating days off. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care and support within the nursing care delivery model. Monitor patient behaviors, safety, and overall well‑being. Assist patients with activities of daily living. Support the implementation of individualized treatment plans. Maintain a therapeutic, safe, and recovery‑focused environment. Collaborate with nurses, physicians, therapists, and social workers. Serve in a lead support role, offering guidance to other Mental Health Assistants. Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills in daily responsibilities. Apply crisis‑intervention awareness and de‑escalation techniques as needed. Duties (Examples) Participates in assigned nursing, clinical and/or rehabilitative interventions to meet client short and long‑term needs. Advocates for services or resources that meet client needs and preferences. Observes and records client behavior; prepares incident and accident reports; monitors client progress. Assists client with decision making and problem solving; helps to learn daily‑living skills, budgeting, medication monitoring, and community adaptation skills. Acts as a role model and instructs staff in crisis intervention techniques. Develops goal‑directed relationships with individuals and/or groups; identifies and facilitates use of appropriate support networks. Investigates alternative placements for client; participates in admission and discharge planning; protects client civil rights. Maintains a safe and healthy environment; may coordinate and direct programs and activities for a group of clients. Performs related duties as required. Functions as a team member of a case management or crisis intervention team. Participates in assessment, crisis intervention and monitoring of clients within the facility or community. Provides individual, group and/or family supportive treatment under appropriate supervision. Identifies and reinforces client skills, strengths, resources and preferences; applies accepted standards of nursing care to clients. Participates in community outreach programs that include crisis intervention and family contact in home settings; identifies and accesses a wide range of community resources. Acts as a liaison to community agencies; manages client behaviors through verbal communication when necessary. Leads, trains and participates in training and development of Mental Health Assistants and other assigned employees. Participates in developing and maintaining a therapeutic milieu; coordinates maintenance of a safe and healthy living environment. Identifies client strengths and assists in development of treatment plans; orients new clients to ward or unit. Participates in team nursing activities and development of nursing care and rehabilitation programs; may supervise self‑administration of oral medications; may assist with data collection. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of experience at the level of a Mental Health Assistant 1. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an outpatient behavioral health setting. Experience providing direct care to individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders living in the community. Experience supporting clients in developing daily living skills and promoting independence. Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary behavioral health or healthcare team. Experience documenting in an electronic health record. Experience using Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and similar cloud‑based collaboration tools. College training in mental health technology, behavioral science, social work, rehabilitation therapy or its equivalent may be substituted for general experience (up to two years). Completion of a mental health trainee certificate program may also be substituted. Special Requirements Some incumbents may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language. May need to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license. May need to travel.
