Sonographer - UI Health Care Urbandale Clinic

Job Summary University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient-centered Sonographer for 50-100% (20-40 hours per week) to perform a variety of advanced ultrasound procedures, including echo for pediatric patients and experience in adult echo, primarily at the Urbandale Clinic. The role requires independent judgment, development of scanning protocols, and participation in educational activities. Salary and Benefits Salary: $61,560 – $111,422 at 100% time, based on years of experience. Full benefit package includes double‑match retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, health, dental, life and disability insurance, and other benefits. Schedule Monday – Friday, variable hours between 7:30 am – 5:30 pm. No weekends, no call, no holidays. 20‑40 hours per week. Location Urbandale, Iowa Responsibilities Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures including imaging and Doppler. Consult with interpreting physicians regarding exam findings. Document exam information per departmental standards. Evaluate images for diagnostic quality. Provide ultrasound guidance for intraoperative and invasive procedures. Explain procedures to patients and families. Perform patient care techniques such as skin preparation, IV placement, vital sign monitoring, basic life support, and contrast administration. Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Instruct and evaluate sonography students and medical residents on diagnostic equipment. Maintain quality control with the ultrasound section per departmental standards. Identify equipment malfunctions and contact repair service. Perform equipment calibration and sterilization per standard methods. Maintain certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Education Required CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography, or Vascular Technology; or Two‑year or more accredited health science program plus a 12‑month formal sonography education; or Bachelor’s degree plus a 12‑month formal sonography education. Experience Required Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in at least one specialty area (e.g., Pediatric Echocardiography). Not required during application. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Driver’s license and ability to meet University of Iowa Feet Safety Standards. Preferred Qualifications Certification or membership in appropriate professional specialty. Experience performing pediatric and fetal echocardiograms. Previous echo experience and EPIC familiarity.
