Heavy Equipment Operator

This role offers the opportunity to operate heavy equipment at a busy site in Curtis Bay, Maryland, primarily using excavators to load large volumes of trucks with dirt each day. You will work in a fast-paced environment where safety, precision, and efficiency are essential, contributing directly to daily production goals and overall site operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators safely and efficiently to load approximately 150-200 trucks per day with dirt.
• Use heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and front-end loaders as needed to support site operations.
• Position and maneuver trucks and equipment to ensure accurate and consistent loading.
• Monitor load volumes and follow site guidelines to avoid overloading or underloading trucks.
• Perform basic equipment checks before and after use to identify and report any mechanical or safety issues.
• Follow all site safety procedures and environmental guidelines while operating heavy equipment.
• Communicate clearly with site supervisors, truck drivers, and team members to coordinate loading activities and meet daily production targets.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area around loading zones to support safe and efficient operations.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience operating excavators to load trucks in a heavy equipment or construction environment.
• Proven ability to operate excavators safely and efficiently under high-volume, fast-paced conditions.
• Hands-on experience with heavy equipment operation, including excavators, loaders, dozers, and front-end loaders.
• Strong awareness of safety practices related to heavy equipment and truck loading.
• Ability to follow directions, site procedures, and environmental guidelines consistently.
• Reliable work habits with the ability to sustain productivity throughout the workday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Additional heavy equipment experience beyond excavator operation is a plus.
• Experience working in high-volume truck loading or similar industrial environments is beneficial.
• Ability to work collaboratively with operators, drivers, and supervisors in a team-oriented setting.
• Good communication skills to coordinate daily tasks and respond to changing site needs.

Work Environment

This position is based at an active industrial site in Curtis Bay, Maryland, with a regular schedule from 6:45 AM to 3:30 PM. You will work outdoors and in equipment operating areas, using heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and front-end loaders. The environment is production-driven, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and teamwork, and you will spend most of your day in or around heavy equipment and trucks in varying weather conditions.

This is a Contract position based out of Annapolis, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
