Registered Nurse – Float Location: Waxahachie, Texas Position Type: Full--Time Salary: $57,000 - $66,570 per year Job Overview Implement a comprehensive program of health services for the campus. Provide health services to students, promote health education, and preventive health practices. Responsibilities Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures. Serve as a health advocate for students; notify parents of accidents or illnesses and secure medical care when parents cannot be reached. Coordinate medication administration and maintain a medication management system. Perform screening procedures required by Texas Department of Health, Texas Educational Agency, and district policy; make referrals as necessary. Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program and implement changes based on findings. Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide instruction to individuals and groups. Provide health counseling to individual students. Serve as health liaison between the school, physicians, parents, and community. Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals, working with teachers, parents, and health care professionals. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees. Assess and report suspected child abuse. Make home visits to assist with student health problems when permitted by the principal. Communicate regularly with the principal and health services coordinator on health services issues. Review immunization records and enforce appropriate procedures. Supervise and train nurse aides in clinic procedures. Maintain records, requisition supplies, and comply with federal, state, and district policies. Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal. Perform other duties consistent with the general requirements and qualifications as assigned. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program. Valid Texas registered nurse license. Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening. CPR certification. Two years of nursing experience, preferably in community health. Special Knowledge & Skills – Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to implement policies and procedures. Reporting Reports to: Campus Principal. Other Maintain CPR, vision, hearing screening, and health screening certifications. Participate in professional development. Perform other duties as assigned.
