Director of Cloud Engineering

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing technology company in Boston, for a Director of Cloud Engineering to lead the organization's cloud infrastructure strategy and engineering teams. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who has spent years building and scaling cloud platforms and is ready to shape both the technical direction and the people who execute it, working closely with senior leadership to align infrastructure investment with business growth. Day to day, you will spend as much time in architecture reviews and roadmap planning as you will coaching the engineering managers who report to you. You will set technical standards, unblock delivery across multiple teams, and make the case for how cloud investment should evolve as the company scales. The person who thrives here has already led leaders, not just individual contributors, and is comfortable balancing hands-on technical judgment with the softer work of building a healthy, high-performing engineering organization. COMPENSATION The salary range for this role is $190,000 - $250,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation and benefits details will be shared during the hiring process. Responsibilities Lead and develop a team of engineering managers responsible for cloud infrastructure and platform engineering Set the architectural direction and technical roadmap for the organization's cloud platforms Partner with product and business leadership to align infrastructure strategy with company growth plans Drive delivery predictability across multiple engineering teams and workstreams Establish standards for reliability, scalability, security, and cost efficiency across cloud environments Oversee capacity planning, budgeting, and vendor relationships for cloud infrastructure Build scalable processes for incident response, on call, and operational excellence Recruit, mentor, and grow engineering managers and senior technical staff as the organization scales Represent cloud engineering in executive planning and cross functional strategy discussions Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and make build versus buy recommendations Requirements 10 plus years of experience in cloud or infrastructure engineering, including direct people leadership Proven experience managing engineering managers or leading multiple engineering teams Deep hands on background with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Strong track record of setting architecture direction for large scale distributed systems Experience owning delivery timelines and coordinating across multiple engineering teams Demonstrated success building and scaling engineering organizations through growth Solid understanding of infrastructure security, compliance, and cost management practices Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to executive stakeholders Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance 401k plan with company match Generous paid time off and company holidays Annual performance bonus eligibility Professional development and continuing education support Life and disability insurance Parental leave program Wellness and gym reimbursement On-site parking or commuter benefits Collaborative on-site office environment in Boston EQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT Careerscape and its hiring partners are equal opportunity employers.
