The incumbent will join the data modernization team supporting Office of Public Health to work on a public health data catalog to improve understanding of data available for public health decision making. Duties include: Assist with the design and implementation of the public health data catalog Support the development of data labeling standards and taxonomy, defining consistent naming conventions and metadata. Collect and work with business and technical metadata. Utilize data catalog for tracking, reporting, and decision‑making support. Explore potential use of AI/ML for data profiling and metadata organization. This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. It is made available through funding from the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate or Graduate Student enrolled in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Health or related field. Preferred Qualifications Experience and familiarity working with health and/or public health data. Experience conducting data management activities. Experience conducting data analysis. Demonstrated experience and/or coursework with computer science or data analytics with strong competencies in data structures. Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and analytical skills. Conditions of Employment Hourly, grant funded position expected until approximately 11/28/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Travel, 10% of the time, will be required. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.
