About the Department

The Ohio Department of Veterans Services (ODVS) is a state employer dedicated to providing superior care to Ohio’s veterans. The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown offers 168 beds and provides standard and memory care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Job Details

• Starting hourly pay: $44.38, with multiple pay increases over the first years of service.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Supervise direct care nursing staff, complete and sign performance evaluations, handle disciplinary issues, provide counseling, assign and monitor work, recruit, interview, recommend applicants for hire, train and orient new employees, develop and provide in‑service training, assist in planning, directing, and evaluating all nursing care services.
• Establish and implement nursing care programs; review and update current programs; serve as nursing liaison with other units to ensure coordinated services; direct record‑keeping and reporting procedures; coordinate nursing services with resident services; conduct or attend health‑care meetings; provide leadership for quality assurance functions; requisition medical supplies or equipment; communicate with resident families, physicians, and specialists; investigate care or abuse complaints.
• Coordinate scheduling, assessments, planning, evaluation, and delivery of all nursing with appropriate healthcare providers; develop, schedule, conduct, and monitor in‑service training programs; attend utilization review and interdisciplinary team meetings; attend workshops and seminars; write and review reports; coordinate staffing schedules; approve or disapprove leave requests in the absence of a staffing coordinator.
• Provide direct professional nursing care to patients; administer emergency care and first aid; conduct nursing rounds and assess patients; administer medications during absences of nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio, issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.
• 24 months experience as a registered nurse.
• 1 course or 3 months experience in counseling.
• 1 course or 3 months experience in interviewing.
• 3 courses or 9 months experience in public relations.
• 3 courses or 9 months experience in employee training and development.
• 6 courses or 18 months experience in management.
• Alternatively, 6 months experience as Nurse 2, 65513, or equivalent of the minimum class qualifications (excluding mandated licensure).
