Millwright Mechanic

The Millwright Mechanic will report to the Fixed Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting on all fixed equipment across the mine site, including on surface and underground. The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.

Responsibilities:

• Stop work for safety concerns, and abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machinery at the mill, water treatment plants, and paste plants.
• Follow maintenance priorities and interact with operational personnel to coordinate maintenance activities with production requirements.
• Assess, monitor and recommend modifications to increase safety, environmental, and health aspects of the mill, water treatment plants, and fixed assets in the underground mine such as the paste plant and compressors.
• Assess, monitor and recommend modifications to increase gold recovery efficiency, plant availability and decrease operational costs.
• Maintain records of the mill maintenance department including safety meetings, attendance, vacations, scheduling, work order management and accidents.
• Intermediate welding and fabrication.
• Major equipment to service includes: jaw crusher, cone crusher, mobile and stationary screens and components of their operation, Conveyor circuits repairing and replacing, ball mill, process pumps and piping circuits, paste plants, vacuum pumps, compressors, filtration equipment and water treatment plant maintenance.
• Responsible for pre-shift inspection of work areas and equipment.
• Manage repairs and findings and escalating issues beyond simple repairs
• Employees must comply with all company policies including, but not limited to attendance, safety, environmental, and HR policies. Employees are responsible for understanding and complying with the Environment, Health, Safety and Social Responsibility Policy.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Ability to work safely and promote safe behavior in others.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills.
• Willingness to assist others, adapt to changing conditions, and proactively solve problems in a dynamic and inclusive work environment.
• Excellent safety, attendance, and work records.
• Certification/Degree in Heavy Equipment Mechanical Maintenance for a vocational tech school prefer or equivalent work history.
• 1-3 years of maintenance experience.
• Have own tools that will be shipped to the mine site by the company.
• Excellent analytical, technical, communication, and problem solving skills are a must
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) with all mine site personnel.
• Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
• Preference given to Alaskan residents.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to safely perform work in a mining environment, including, but not limited to:

• Working outdoors in a range of environmental conditions, including rain, snow, ice, wind, cold temperatures, and periods of limited daylight.
• Periodic work in an underground mining environment.
• Frequent standing and walking on uneven surfaces on surface and underground.
• Climbing stairs, ladders, and escapeways.
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds often and up to 100 pounds on occasion, pushing and pulling equipment or materials up to 100 pounds, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
• Employees must be able to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when applicable, work in varying environmental conditions, and participate in emergency response and evacuation procedures.

Mine Site Information:

The Kensington Mine is located within the historic Berners Bay Mining District, a region with deep mining roots that date back over a century. The mine site is a remote camp located approximately 45 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. Transportation to and from the mine site happens twice per day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) and takes approximately 1.5 hours each way. To get to the mine site, employees board a bus in Juneau that transports to the Yankee Cove dock (~30 minutes), then board a boat (~45 minutes), then board another bus to the camp area (~15 minutes). Food and housing is provided on-site to employees. Rooms are dormitory style with two twin beds, a TV, and storage for your personal belongings.
