Position Details Position Title: Research Analyst Position Control Number: 999280 Type of Position: Administration Position Status: Full-time Department: 3002-Institutional Research and Effectiveness – IRE Campus: Western University Campus‑Pomona, CA Location: California Job Summary Under the general direction of the Associate Provost for Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Research Analyst will conduct data analysis, coordination, and reporting. The position will use reporting and data visualization tools such as IBM Cognos, MS Excel, Power BI, and/or other similar software to report university information to the appropriate compliance and accreditation agencies. Analyze data statistically using SQL, MS Excel, and/or similar software and use data visualization tools like Power BI or similar software to respond to data requests from the College community. Write SQL syntax to extract, analyze and interpret data from ODS and manipulate large datasets. Assist in designing and administering surveys, collecting and maintaining data, and ensuring quality and accuracy of data using Qualtrics or similar software. Use data analysis and reporting tools such as SQL, MS Excel, IBM Cognos and/or other similar software to report College information to external surveys like IPEDS, NSF‑GSS, Peterson’s, US News & World Report, etc. Use business intelligence tools like Power BI or similar software to distribute and promote university information like fact‑books, fast‑facts, etc. to wider audiences. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Advanced knowledge of SQL syntaxes, queries, and database structures. Proficiency with PL/SQL Developer or similar software. Experience using SPSS for statistical analysis and data interpretation. Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint. At least 5+ years' experience in dashboard creation/development using Power BI and/or other similar software. Strong working knowledge of advanced Microsoft Excel functionality. Skills Excellent problem solving and logic skills with the ability to work independently. A team player with good communication skills. Strong work ethic. Abilities Stand and/or sit and continuously perform essential job functions. Work longer hours, after hours, weekends and on holidays if and when it becomes necessary. Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism. Required Qualifications Education Master’s degree in Management Sciences, Statistics, Computer Science or related field, from an accredited academic institution. Experience or Training 6 months of work experience in a similar position, or combination of academic and work experience. Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications Ability to travel for work‑related meetings, training, conferences or events as needed. Preferred Qualifications Experience Experience with SQL, MS Excel, IBM Cognos Analytics, Power BI and/or other similar software. Knowledge of Institutional Research field in higher education. Key Responsibilities Assists with University reaffirmation activities, including program review, by coordinating data collection. Helps investigate themes at the university related to educational and institutional effectiveness. Assists in designing and administering surveys, collecting and maintaining data, and ensuring quality and accuracy of data. Helps with external reporting of university information, such as IPEDS, external surveys such as Peterson’s, etc. as requested. Analyzes data statistically and prepares written reports as needed, including graphs. Makes recommendations based on findings and disseminates to specific groups. Uses reporting and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Excel, SPSS, Qualtrics, or other similar software to distribute and promote important information to wider audiences. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
