Instructional Designer 2

Instructional Designer 2 Location: Augusta University Regular/Temporary: Regular Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job Summary The Instructional Designer (ID) 2 is responsible for working collaboratively with faculty, subject matter experts, and cross‑departmental stakeholders in conceptualization, design, development, and on‑time delivery of high‑quality online courses and learning experiences. The ID2 will ensure the courses they develop meet federal accessibility standards, university policies, and AU Online Guiding Principles. They play an active role in team decision making related to team goals, adopted instructional design processes, adoption of educational and e‑Learning authoring technology, quality assurance process refinement, as well as the improvement of continuous improvement practices. Their contributions to the development of processes and procedures will ensure consistency, on‑going quality, and regulatory compliance of all AU Online courses and programs. As senior course designers, they will model best practices in course design and faculty engagement, serve as mentors for Instructional Designer 1, advise the Director of Instructional Design regarding emerging design practices and educational technologies, and alert the Director of concerns of potential issues or shortcomings in the Team's practices. The successful candidate will be a creative problem solver and is expected to engage in a spirit of positive support for instructional innovation and to work collaboratively with colleagues across the campus community. Responsibilities

ONLINE LEARNING EXPERIENCES AND MATERIALS:

Collaborate with faculty on learning design and best practice pedagogy in the creation of premium online courses. Assist faculty members with the development of multimedia materials for their courses. Serve as the project manager for each course development project. Create valid assessments which result in artifacts to serve as evidence of learning for both formative and summative performances. Source/create interactive content to ensure learners remain engaged, and courses see minimal attrition. Review and update existing courses based on student and faculty data. Work closely with team members to develop faculty support resources. Make informed recommendations on changes and adjustments to learning experiences using performance data, and instructor/student feedback as required.

QUALITY ASSURANCE PRACTICES:

Engage in the continuous improvement of quality assurance processes and tools. Apply rubrics to evaluate the quality of course design. Consult with instructors regarding the accessibility of electronic materials, copyright, and compliance with pertinent regulations, policies, and accreditation regarding documents they add while teaching.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT:

Educate faculty while collaborating with them in the course design about topics such as learning design, accessibility, faculty presence, student feedback options and engagement with students via educational technologies. Design and facilitate faculty development offerings.

MENTORSHIP:

Serve as the lead for ID1 onboarding. Embody the role of mentorship in interactions with team members and others as appropriate.

OTHER:

Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college or university in instructional design, educational technology or a related field from an accredited institution with three or more years working as a team member in a higher education setting as an instructional designer, to include experience with online course development and integration of educational technology in the learning environment within an LMS, and some experience with multimedia development. Preferred Qualifications Five years of experience in instructional design in online higher education. Online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education. Familiarity with learning analytics collection, analysis, and impact on course continuous improvement. Demonstrated success working with faculty members or other instructional staff to improve teaching and learning and in their use of learning management systems. Experience using learning management systems, visual presentation software, online collaboration tools, and web authoring tools to create online learning environments. Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities for faculty members. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Deep knowledge of learning theories and frameworks that guide the instructional design of online courses. Comprehensive knowledge of design practices which result in high quality online courses that meet the highest standards. Documentation processes to maintain accurate course information, related technology integrations, and ongoing course design implementations and updates. Competency in web‑related technologies, including HTML.

SKILLS

Engage in active listening. Communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written forms with all audiences. Solicit, accept, and provide constructive feedback. Assist faculty members with the development of multimedia materials. Create WCAG 2.1 compliant content and materials. Employ detail‑orientation and organizational skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Acquire new knowledge and skills as needed to create effective solutions to novel problems. Develop innovative and engaging instructional strategies and materials. Collaborate with all faculty leveraging strategies that fit the needs of all faculty members. Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external clients. Guide faculty in creative and effective use of available campus and related technologies. Learn and support new emerging technologies used in the delivery of online courses. Work independently or in a team setting. Excel in a collaborative work environment. Manage multiple projects and meet departmental objectives and deadlines. Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required) Pay Band: B11 Salary: Minimum $56,600 annually – Midpoint $72,000 annually. Salary to be commensurate with the qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period: 4/28/2026 – Until Filled. Benefits include: health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or optional retirement plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees who have been employed with us successfully for more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program. For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post‑secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s).
