This team's mission is to develop advanced technology that ensures exceptional experiences for both our members and advertisers. Our responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of products, ranging from sales and media planning to optimizing advertiser outcomes and execution. This includes inventory and order management, campaign execution, ad serving, audience and identity management, measurement, reporting, and finance.We use several Netflix investments and innovations - a unique mix of client and server-side ad insertions, state-of-the-art content delivery systems, ad encoding recipes, content understanding, and metadata, etc. We deliver ads in a manner that’s thoughtful of our member’s viewing experience and drive great outcomes for advertisers. We also ensure that advertiser brand safety is ensured during serving so that members only see the most appropriate ads for them.Our team is faced with the enormous ambitions of building highly performant advertising systems and delivering high impact to our business by monetizing our incredible slate of content. Our roles come with expectations of delivering in a rapid clip, comfort with lofty goals and big ambitions, the visibility that comes with strategic initiatives, and responsibility and an appetite to operate like a startup within an established company.The Ads Finance team’s vision is to establish a compliant, accurate, automated, and omni-channel Finance and billing system that streamlines and optimizes financial operations for ads, with a core charter to create a unified and compliant Revenue Recognition layer, Automate billing, invoicing, and Journal processes. The Ads Finance platform centralizes and validates all the raw data—from campaign performance to pricing structures—needed to calculate and bill our diverse advertising revenue streams. This ensures financial integrity and consistency, providing a reliable foundation for all core Ad business operations, including budgeting, predicting future revenue, and managing credit and pricing strategies.We are looking for highly experienced Engineers to architect and build the intersection of our Advertising and Finance systems. You will have an opportunity to design highly scalable application layers and data pipelines that handle high-throughput ad serving/bidding data while ensuring absolute financial accuracy, strict regulatory compliance, and seamless ledger integration.Skills & experience we’re seeking:8+ years of experience building cloud-based applications with modern programming languagesProven leadership at an L6/Staff/Principal level driving collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders from product, engineering, design, and Business. and of delivering complex features with critical business impactExpertise building and integrating large-scale Finance or Payment systems with deep knowledge of revenue integrity (ACID compliance, revenue recognition, invoicing, data reconciliation, and financial reporting).Thorough understanding of the advertising marketplace and landscape (e.g., ad serving, bidding, programmatic environments, campaign management).Experience designing multi-tenant, API-first architectures and scalable microservices (REST, gRPC, Protobuf).Proven track record of delivering complex features with critical business impact in high-throughput environments.Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.Strong analytical and strategic thinking with demonstrated product sense and leadership in the working environment.Nice to haves:Experience translating complex financial concepts into code (e.g., double-entry bookkeeping, journal automation, distributed transactions, tax engine integrations).Experience working within regulated frameworks like SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance or IT General Controls (ITGC).Working knowledge of event-driven architectures and streaming infrastructure (e.g., Apache Flink, Kafka Streams) to process upstream ad mutations for reactive billing.Comfort with large-scale data systems and pipelines, ensuring data flowing from high-throughput ad serving systems lands with absolute financial precision.Working knowledge of AI/ML/genAI techniques and an ability to safely apply them to the Finance and Billing work flows.Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $499,000.00 - $820,000.00.Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
