Person County Government is actively recruiting full-time Paramedics to join its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division—a team dedicated to providing high‑quality lifesaving care to the community. Paramedics perform advanced and basic life support assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transport of patients in emergency and non‑emergency situations. This position requires strong clinical judgment, technical proficiency, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments. Paramedics play a critical role in patient care, working collaboratively with fellow EMS personnel, fire departments, law enforcement, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to the candidate’s educational background and relevant work experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy. Shift cycle is 24 hours on and 72 hours off. Built‑in overtime is available. Essential Functions Respond to emergency calls in an ambulance and perform necessary rescue work in accordance with established protocols for Basic and Advanced Life Support; administer emergency medical care, including the use of transport ventilators, intravenous infusion pumps, suction units, immobilization equipment, syringes, medications, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, pacers, video laryngoscopes, advanced airway equipment, and automatic chest compression devices. Perform emergency medical acts in accordance with protocols established by the department and the County’s Medical Director; administer cardiac and narcotic medications via intravenous line, administer specified solutions by intravenous infusion, perform pulmonary ventilations, and obtain EKGs for cardiac diagnostics. Perform patient assessment and basic life support techniques in accordance with local protocols, including airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen administration, hemorrhage control, treatment for shock, bandaging, dressing injuries, splinting fractures, and dislocations; assist in normal and abnormal childbirth; treat injuries and burns; lift and move patients for transfer to a medical facility; and extricate patients from confined areas. Transport patients to local and regional medical facilities, maintaining contact with medical staff while in transport and ensuring patient care. Complete full patient care documentation through various paper and electronic formats during and after calls for service, including billing and legal accountability. Participate in a continuous training program to maintain certification and improve competence in medical technical work and operation; study street and road patterns and county networks to improve future runs. Inspect and test response vehicles and their emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory, cleaning and sanitizing equipment daily, ensuring equipment is in good working order, and reporting defects beyond minor issues for specialized attention. Maintain cleanliness and perform minor maintenance of EMS facilities, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning living spaces and surrounding areas. Participate in community outreach programs to promote safety and prevention awareness and provide information on EMS services. Serve as a Field Training Officer with newer employees, overseeing and documenting protocols; provide direction to EMT, AEMT, and First Responder certified staff or employees of other organizations. Be required to work in the County’s Emergency Operations Center, Mobile EOC, or conduct other emergency support function duties as required. Perform related work as assigned. Qualifications High School graduation or GED equivalent. Certification by the State of North Carolina as an EMT‑Paramedic or eligibility for state reciprocity/legal recognition by the State of North Carolina. CPR Certification. Complete NIMS ISC 100, 200, 700, 800 within 90 days of hire date. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. #J-18808-Ljbffr
