Grading Superintendent

Position Overview Coordinate personnel and equipment on heavy civil construction projects. Manage daily interactions with crews and clients, traveling to job sites as needed. Serve as the Construction Superintendent with day‑to‑day supervisory responsibilities. What You Can Do (Minimum Qualifications) Background in heavy civil construction including excavation, underground utilities, grading, site work, concrete and asphalt paving (3–6 years). Progressed from laborer to leadership role, able to teach, coach and mentor crew members across various scopes. Effective leader managing multiple construction projects simultaneously, including personnel, scheduling and equipment (3+ years). Passionate about coaching, mentoring and promoting a safe work environment. Excellent customer‑service skills and ability to work with diverse personalities. Proficiency with PC programs and Microsoft Office Suite; quick to learn new applications. Valid driver’s license, able to pass pre‑employment drug screen and current U.S. work authorization or ability to obtain prior to start. Schedule projects, personnel and equipment in coordination with dispatcher. Participate in project meetings with contracting agencies and customers. Attend pre‑bid and post‑job meetings to evaluate performance and profitability. Interface daily with crew to assess needs, problems and progress. Ensure crew timecards, coding, equipment and labor hours are accurate. Review cost sheets for correctness and compliance; report budget issues. Review project plans, specifications and startup list prior to job start. Assist estimating with feedback and field measurements. Verify job quantities and submitted orders. Supervise direct reports and related employees. Travel to various job sites as needed. Assist workforce in other production areas as required. Maintain regular, timely attendance. Heavy lifting – up to 75 lbs. from floor to waist. Awkward positions – sit, kneel, reach. Flexibility – awkward reaches. Balance – maintain stability on slick and uneven surfaces. Vision – 20/40 corrected vision for safety hazards and equipment. Hearing – sufficient to hear verbal warnings and instructions. Work Environment Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather, vibration; moisture or humidity. Occasional exposure to high or precarious platforms and risk of electrical shock.
