Millwright Mechanic AS2 - Swing Shift

Position Overview Hourly Rate: $33.26 This position handles mechanical maintenance and emergent repair of ships, and at times yard mechanical maintenance. Essential Functions, Major Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Comply with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures. Takes direction and requires limited guidance to conduct assignments. Replace defective parts on equipment, adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts. Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs. Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools. Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, using blueprints and schematic drawings. Move machinery and equipment using chain hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks. Use hand tools and power tools to assemble machines and mount them to foundations or structures. Lay out mounting holes accurately and drill holes to the proper size. Perform shrink-fit operations on bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels using thermal expansion or liquid nitrogen technique. Apply rigging and overhead crane operations, lifting device use, inspection, and load calculations. Demonstrate proficiency on a drill press and other basic shop equipment. Align pumps and motors efficiently using the dial indicator method. Work at heights and in confined spaces. Communicate effectively and work independently or in a group. Perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication). Read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Perform percentages, metric and decimal conversions, multiply fractions and decimals as required for measurements. Read and understand blueprints and assembly drawings. Use standard shop measuring tools, including micrometers, vernier scales, dial calipers, rulers, tape measures, protractors, joint calipers, height gauges, and pi tapes. Use hand tools such as files, hacksaws, wrenches, power tools, taps, and dies. Might have knowledge in working with one of the following items (not required) Working knowledge of shipboard machinery—valves, actuators, pumps, gears, gearboxes, winches, heat exchangers, bearings, shafting, rudder systems. Propulsion basics including variable pitch props. Pumps—including types and mechanical seals. Steam systems. Underwater hull machinery, including bearings. Blowers, winches, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Shipboard systems—condensers, heat exchangers, fuel, lube oil, and cooling. Knowledge of overboard and suction ship valves (disassembly, cleaning, lapping, blue). Education and Experience High school diploma, GED or greater. 1 year of relevant work experience preferred. Proven skills: Work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience. Outdoor work and project site travel. Required safety equipment: hard hat, eye and ear protection, respirator, no loose clothing, leather shoes/work boots. Exposure to chemicals, solvents, paints, oils, fumes, noise, and asbestos. Operation of hand and power tools, hoists, machine tooling, and cranes. Compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
