Surveyor Crew Chief

Job description The Senior Crew Chief is responsible for overseeing fieldwork in Construction Production and managing all crew members involved in these tasks. This position encompasses the duties of a crew chief, which include, but are not limited to, construction staking, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and lot surveys. The Senior Crew Chief will carry out assignments from Survey Project Managers without supervision and will also train and mentor crew members. This role requires Crew Chiefs to communicate with clients and project managers to make accurate decisions on the Field. Strong time management, communication, attention to detail, and advanced knowledge of construction surveying are required. This position is in an outdoor environment, and traveling is part of the daily job. This role reports to the Construction Field Manager. Role Responsibilities Performs field work related to all types of surveys, including residential construction surveying & staking, preparing plat plans, foundations, and final surveys, topographic surveys, and preparing boundary surveys. Accurately runs and adjusts survey instruments, including GPS, robotic total stations, level, and other electronic measuring devices with electronic data collecting capabilities. Basic knowledge of Laser Scanning and Drone fieldwork procedures. Knowledge of accurately completing Topos, Construction Surveys, Utility Location, Route Surveys, Residential Surveys, Wetland locations, Tree locations, setting control, etc., with no supervision Calculate search coordinates and knowledge to work with different datums. Able to set up jobs in the data collector. Daily, be able to import/export jobs, text, and RAW files. Daily, be able to scan field notes and upload job text and RAW files. Knowledgeable in defining and locating natural and artificial features. The ability to calculate witness points when needed and search points from plat data. Take accurate and legible survey notes and perform simple not reduction and checking. Perform mathematical calculations. Reads and understands survey map data and construction plans, plats, legal descriptions, aerials, tax maps, CCR, etc. Complete a construction stakeout, utility location, route survey, wetland survey, and a topographical and boundary survey. Be able to set horizontal and vertical control Poper localization techniques with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and how to close a traverse & verify its closure meets MTS. Oversee the crew members to ensure job tasks are done correctly, train team members when necessary, and ensure that the crew maintains the equipment and vehicles. Make sure crew notes are completed accurately and loaded into the necessary project management systems. Daily providing details when billing time in the Project Management System Be able to manage the Field work to finish line work techniques and communicate with the Project Manager. Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager or Field Manager. Qualifications and Education Requirements High school education required. CST Certification. Minimum of five years of experience operating survey instruments, collecting field information, and performing field computations. Proficient in using computers, calculators, and math through trigonometry. Demonstrated knowledge of principles of survey measurements, staking, and marking. Knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry. Proficiency with GPS, robotics, and conventional survey equipment. Lecia, Spectra, and Topcon proficiency is a plus. Interpersonal Skills and Personal Attributes Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements. Demonstrable problem‑solving skills, including time management, decision making, and adaptation. Effective written and oral communication skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong work ethic and team‑player attitude. Physical demands Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while measurements are taken. While performing these duties, an employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Schedule The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime, Overnight work, and weekends may be required. Travel This position is in an outdoor environment, and traveling is part of the daily job.
