Bridge Carpenter Foreman – Lead Structural Forming & Civil Field Operations with S.M.H. Construction Co., Inc.

Job Overview:

• Company: S.M.H. Construction Co., Inc.
• Salary/Pay Rate: $47 - $55 per hour (includes $13 payment toward insurance and retirement) + Performance Based Bonus
• Location: Charleston, WV (work sites typically within 90 minutes)
• Job/Employment Type: Full Time
• Project Scope: Commercial, Government, and Federal Heavy Civil Infrastructure
• Mandatory Licences & Certifications: None Required

The Opportunity :

You will serve as a vital field leader directing crew members and executing complex structural concrete formwork across high-visibility bridge and civil projects as an extension of the superintendent. Working alongside experienced superintendents, you will expand your site leadership skills while building critical public infrastructure across the region. How You Will Make an Impact:

• Direct daily field activities for carpentry crews to construct, assemble, and secure complex concrete forming systems.
• Review structural blueprints, site drawings, and project plans to ensure accurate measurements and layout execution.
• Supervise the installation of specialized form ties, modular formwork, and custom wooden framing systems.
• Partner directly with the Project Superintendent to coordinate crew tasks, resolve job site challenges, and maintain project schedules.
• Mentor trade carpenters and helper personnel to drive high-quality craftsmanship, productivity, and strict site safety compliance.
• Inspect completed formwork continuously to confirm structural integrity, squareness, and plumbness prior to concrete pours.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in structural concrete formwork, heavy civil carpentry, or commercial framing.
• Strong technical background in various concrete forming systems, form ties, and heavy structural framing methods.
• Proven ability to read and interpret detailed engineering plans, structural drawings, and project specifications.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Previous leadership experience managing, delegating to, or supervising small field crews on civil infrastructure sites.
• Direct hands-on background working on bridge deck forming, abutment construction, or heavy containment structures.
• High self-motivation and a strong interest in advancing into higher-level project superintendency.
