Staff Accountant

Dark Horse serves utilities across the Southeast through right-of-way vegetation management and powerline construction. We're scaling quickly across multiple states and entities, and we're looking for a Staff Accountant who wants to grow with us. The Role We're looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with 3+ years of experience to own the day-to-day financial operations of a growing multi-entity company. This role is hands-on and high-visibility — you'll work directly with the VP of Finance and get exposure to job costing, multi-entity accounting, and operations well beyond a typical staff accounting seat. What You’ll Do Cash & Banking Reconcile bank accounts and manage credit card activity across multiple entities Prepare and issue customer invoicing and manage accounts receivable, including collections follow-up Process vendor invoices and manage accounts payable across entities and job classes Support payroll-related accounting entries Job Costing & Reporting Support job costing processes and profitability reporting Review general ledger coding for accuracy across projects and crews Assist with recurring operational reporting Administrative & Compliance Assist with regular tax filings and other compliance requirements Support insurance and equipment recordkeeping Help with job and crew setup in company systems What You’ll Bring 3+ years of accounting experience; construction, field services, or project-based industries a plus CPA or CPA candidate preferred Strong Excel skills; NetSuite or similar ERP experience a plus Comfortable with high transaction volume and multiple entities Self-starter who can manage recurring deadlines with minimal oversight Willingness to travel 1–2 weeks per year to support our Tennessee operations and learn the business This role offers real room to grow.
