A long-established Chicago heating and mechanical contractor, non-union and not private-equity owned, is hiring an experienced boiler technician for service work on commercial and multi-unit residential buildings. The job is no-heat and no-hot-water calls, repairs, and inspections on large steam, hydronic, and volume water heating equipment, plus wiring and commissioning controls. The company states that its managers have field experience, that it promotes from within, and that the job is to fix, not sell. It provides the vehicle, uniforms, tools, and fuel card. • Anticipated $40-$50/hr, based on experience and the number of jobs you can handle
• Annual bonus potential $5,000-$15,000 based on performance; not guaranteed

Overview

• Handle no-heat and no-hot-water service calls and get buildings back online
• Service boilers and volume water heaters over 2 million BTUs
• Diagnose and repair atmospheric and forced-draft burner systems
• Wire and commission control systems on commercial units
• Inspect and maintain boilers, pumps, and water heaters
• Follow safety protocols on every service and repair job

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Strongly Preferred — 5+ years of experience with steam boilers, hydronic boilers, and volume water heating boilers; commercial focus preferred
• Strongly Preferred — Skilled in wiring and commissioning boiler and mechanical equipment
• Strong diagnostic and critical-thinking ability on burner and control problems
• Able to work safely on physically demanding tasks
• Valid driver's license, and insurable on the company vehicle policy
• Lives within a reasonable commute of Chicago's north side
