This unit oversees the entire process, from recruitment to enrollment. Regular interaction and contact with the public, including professionals in all disciplines of the university, is involved. These interactions require an accurate knowledge of relaying Admissions policies and procedures set forth by the University and the Office of Admissions. Location of Workplace Location of Workplace Other Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Senior Admissions Counselor is a vital member of the Admissions team and diligently works to recruit and enroll students from Raleigh, NC, and the surrounding area who will perform successfully in the UNCW collegiate community. This position has daily, continual contact with internal and external constituents. This position must be knowledgeable of all Admissions policies and procedures set forth by the University and the Office of Admissions, and be able to articulate that knowledge to students, parents, high school counselors, faculty, and others who have inquiries about Admissions. The position is highly involved in a wide range of admissions activities/events/programs for prospective students from Raleigh, NC, and the surrounding area designed to publicize and describe the opportunities available to students who attend UNCW. The position requires extensive travel in Raleigh, NC, and surrounding areas to attract qualified candidates and meet established goals to increase enrollment at UNCW. The Senior Admissions Counselor must have a strong ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and operate with a sense of urgency and attention to goal attainment when managing the day-to-day Admissions activities and priorities of the position. The main job functions include the following: Evaluates First-Year applications for admission. Meets and communicates effectively with students, parents, high school counselors, alumni & student volunteers and faculty. Represents UNCW in college fairs and in the community. Applies related policies and regulations of the UNC System, UNCW , and the Office of Admissions. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred education, professional skills and experience Previous experience in a post-secondary admissions office preferred, with the ability to understand and effectively support admissions and enrollment goals. Strong organizational, time management, and independent work skills, with the ability to prioritize competing assignments, manage multiple time-sensitive deadlines, and maintain high standards of accuracy, professionalism, ethics, and judgment. Ability to manage a high volume of admissions applications autonomously, exercise sound judgment in application review, and complete work accurately and efficiently within established deadlines. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the department professionally; communicate effectively in writing, presentations, social media, and other formats; and facilitate positive collaboration and conflict resolution. Ability to use data and technology effectively, including interpreting regional and departmental data, developing multifaceted reports, and utilizing databases, spreadsheets, online systems, email, calendaring, and other computer applications. Ability to develop and implement innovative programs and approaches, seek input and identify best practices, and contribute strategically to organizational goals.
