Position Information This position is an Oakland University Campus Maintenance and Trades – MEA / NEA position. The incumbent will be represented by the MEA / NEA. Employee Group/Grade: Custodian Job Category: Service Work Schedule: FT/Reg (40 hours) Shift/Days: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Must be available for overtime as needed including early mornings, nights and/or weekends. Pay Schedule: Hour Number of Hrs./Wk.: 40+ Hours a Week THIS POSITION IS BEING POSTED TO FILL SIX VACANCIES. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to read the directions for the use and/or mixing of various cleaning chemicals and compounds and written instructions. Performs physically active work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, shoveling, pulling, pushing, climbing on a ladder and lifting in order to perform various cleaning and set‑up tasks. Frequent lifting requiring the execution of up to sixty pounds of force to move and use supplies, use cleaning aids and equipment. Works with cleaning chemicals and compounds and polishing materials that may produce strong and/or offensive odors. May work in various weather conditions with extremes in heat and cold. Completion of a physical to verify the applicant’s ability to perform the duties of the position. Work sample to demonstrate the applicant’s ability to perform the duties of the position. Must possess a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the University by the University’s insurance carrier. Desired Qualifications Previous custodial/janitorial experience is desirable. All Qualifications Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered. Position Purpose To perform cleaning activities and maintain assigned areas in various campus classroom and office buildings and, on an emergency basis, perform grounds related tasks.
