Overview The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering’s Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking an Accountant. This position performs professional accounting duties to control and document the handling of all funds within an assigned area. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing financial statements/reports; making recommendations to improve internal controls, operating effectiveness and efficiency; and performing other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Responsibilities Preparing and reviewing financial statements/reports; making recommendations to improve internal controls, operating effectiveness and efficiency; and performing other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. Ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. Preparing and recording asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Preparing, reviewing and overseeing expense vouchers, invoices, purchase requisitions, reimbursements, reconciliations, projections/forecasting and other transactions for the department in compliance with approved budgets and University’s policies and procedures. Determining proper handling of financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and approving within designated limits, policies or contracts. Preparing budget reports, department allocation reports or other specialized reports or analysis on a regular or ad hoc basis. Identifying risks and areas in need of improvement to prevent mistakes. Reviewing, investigating and correcting errors in financial entries, documents and reports. Maintaining operational communication with various central departments concerning accounting and financial information. Performing duties related to payroll, personnel actions or similar procedures; assisting faculty with post award financial analysis related to contract or grants. Qualifications Level I ($43,600 – $69,760): Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a Degree plus a CPA. Level II ($49,050 – $78,480): Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a Degree plus a CPA and 2 years of experience in accounting services. Level III ($53,140 – $90,330): Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a Degree plus a CPA and 4 years of experience in accounting services. SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE: If a candidate has the required education but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
