Job Description:

Valytics LLC is seeking a seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team in supporting critical health IT and operational initiatives for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This is an immediate opening for a technical communicator with 3 to 5 years of professional experience who is familiar with federal documentation standards and eager to support veterans' programs. In this role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), software engineers, and project managers to translate complex technical concepts, system architectures, and workflows into clear, well-structured documentation. The Technical Writer supports the Technical Writing (TW) team within the Testing Process Quality Improvement (TPQI) organization. Technical writing requires close collaboration with other teams within Testing Process Quality Improvement (TPQI), within Test Management and Operations (TMO) and Test Center (TC), and other VA counterparts.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform a technical edit for quality assurance on all documentation prior to delivery to the customer.
2. Create and implement consistent writing templates and documentation style for all technical publications.
3. Collaborate with subject matter experts when creating user guides, process documentation, new templates, template updates, and presentations to understand project specifications and needs.
4. Analyze team processes to ensure efficiency and that all aspects of the process are documented.
5. Ensure technical documentation is complete and accurate.
6. Combine, edit, format, and finalize the monthly progress report.
7. Participate in the review process.
8. Create, edit, and maintain training material, brown bags, and instructional supplements to ensure processes are understood as well as review all documentation and training materials to keep them up to date.
9. Provide a high level of customer service by adopting the customer’s mission and working towards success.
10. Transcribe Meeting Minutes from recordings.
11. Work with AI to improve these functions.

Required Qualifications:

• U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a VA Public Trust (VA suitability required)
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field
• 3 – 5 years of Technical Writing/Communications experience in IT or Software development industries (or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience)
• Position is Remote/Hybrid with candidates local to the DMV (DC Metro, Southern MD, Northern VA) preferred
• Experience must include:
  • Interviewing SMEs to gather technical details
  • Creating technical manuals and quick reference guides
  • Using accepted style manuals, such as the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), the Microsoft Manual of Style, and VA style preferences
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility
• Proven excellent oral and written communication skills
• Expertise writing/editing/proofreading at all levels, and willingness to do whatever is needed
• Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas
• Ability to revise one’s own work or the work of others to make documents or presentations clearer and more persuasive
• Capacity to convey complex information in appropriate fashion to audiences with different levels of knowledge.
• Be able to work in both a team environment and independently
• Ability to coach and mentor other technical writers
• Be able to work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment
• Knowledge of AI tools to improve communications
